German shepherd coughing

Our beloved family dog was coughing throughout the night last night like she was trying to bring something up. This stopped this morning but then again this afternoon. Wondering if this is possibly heat related, struggling with the weather and keeping it cool for her with all of that fur. Any recommendations as may be a trip to the vets but hoping we can keep her cool. Looking for one of those cooling mats but unfortunately they seemed to sell quickly last week with everyone getting them to put under their mattresses with the heat. She has open access around the house and to plenty of water. Parent works from home

May be totally unrelated but google videos of how to perform coupage on dogs and give it a try. Just in case she has accidentally inhaled something. Hope she feels better soon

Kennel Cough. Even if she's vaccinated she can still catch it.

She'll need to see a vet but you'll need to mention the coughing in advance so she doesn't mix with other dogs in the waiting area.

She may need medication but the most likely scenario is that she'll need to stay home for the next fourteen days.

Sounds exactly like Kennel Cough, we rang our vets but they said they didn't need to see us unless it got worse. We gave a bit of water and honey which appeared to help.

I'd definitely give your vet a call, it's better to be safe.

It sounds like kennel cough . Put some honey on a spoon for him. It lasts about a week. But go to vets if your unsure

My dogs cough turned out to be Mitral Valve Disease, you need to see the vet to rule this out.

Mumof3lads · 20/07/2022 15:34

I had this with mine, was told repeatedly it was kennel cough, until one day my poor pup vomited a mountain of worms, they had got into his lungs hence the coughing. Please make sure you worm your dog and make sure it's for all types of worms not just the generic type.

My guy was poorly last week he had the squits badly also a nasty cough. Took him to the vets and £150 quid later he was almost immediately sorted out. It was a bug going round apparently.

Have you taken your dog to the vet op?
