One more day, counting down the hours now folks. We’ve done the bulk of it, just a couple more hours to manage those pooches.
Well done guys

No proper walks here for at least the past week. My black boy slept on 2 cool mats last night he finally understands them!

fancyfrogs · 19/07/2022 13:05

Another one that doesn't seem to care about no walks! But still insists on banging at the door until I let him in the garden. Let him out to sit with me a little bit yesterday - plenty of shade available but of course lay in the baking hot sun, panting non stop. Then was not happy when I dragged him in, what a terrible mother I am! Thankfully when he's in, he's lying on the wood flooring which is nice and cool. I wish I could do that all day too...

peanutpancakess · 19/07/2022 13:23

@Impossiblepossibilities they are funny aren't they! Yes, the laying alongside you, I'm like you must be hot buddy, nope he can't get enough.
As he now 15 though I'm stopping him for trying to lay in the sun!

LadyLothbrook · 19/07/2022 13:29

Mine keeps following my husband around trying to coax him into a fight. Also keeps running in really fast with something he shouldn't have ie. a sock or make up brush, just quick enough so I can get a look so I'll 'chase' him. He is doing everything BUT chilling 🙄

NeverHadABetterBitOfButter · 19/07/2022 14:19

I normally have to go into the office every day but I made an exception today because I knew ddog would be a complete pillock in the heat. So far I have had to carry him back in the house twice after he went to lie in the sun. He's now sitting inside looking furious as I've trapped him in and given him a shower to try and cool him down. He is refusing to sleep. I am really hoping the weather breaks tonight!

stillherenow · 19/07/2022 14:28

Ddog's bottom has made it onto the cooling mat !

SarahSissions · 19/07/2022 14:35

Hang in there! I’m Guessing one more hour and then the temperature will start to drop. Homeward straight people

Ddog would not settle in the bedroom last night at all, just pacing and panting, it was horrible. Did all the right things yesterday to keep the rooms cool but for the first time ever it didn't seem to make a jot of difference.

In the end I slept downstairs on the floor with her as it wasn't quite so bad down there, but she wouldn't let me put a damp towel or a cool pack anywhere near her, it just annoyed her more. She finally calmed down after a little while and fell asleep thank goodness. Moping around today finding out of the way cool spots to sleep in, but less panting going on.

Please let tonight be a little cooler 🙏

Thank you for starting this thread OP.

You're right, we've just got to get through the worst of it and tomorrow should be more bearable; just want it to stop.

It's currently 28 degrees in my house, despite having all blind/curtains closed and fans on.

My dog is long hair/double coated and 11 years old and tbh I was quite worried about how she would cope with the heat. Okay apparently though, as it didn't stop her wanting to run in the garden this morning, and I ended up having to pick her up to get her back in the house. Thankfully the garden has a good bit of shade in the morning

I'm looking forward to not having to walk her at 5.30 in the morning, although I suspect that won't be for some weeks yet at we're still looking at daytime temperatures in the 30s here after the extreme heat goes.

Autumn101 · 19/07/2022 20:36

We’ve had rain and a massive drop in temperature to 21 so we’re off for a much needed walk! It was 38 a few hours ago

tizwozliz · 19/07/2022 21:15

21 and rain sounds lovely. It's still above 30 here

SarahSissions · 19/07/2022 21:36

We’ve been for a walk! It was short but lovely! Well done everyone! Don’t want to do that again anytime soon.

It’s down to 19 now, hurray 😎 mine are all sleep in the lounge. We have every door and window open.

Hope everyone’s pooches settle and we all get some sleep tonight.

Sitdowncupoftea · 20/07/2022 09:01

My dog not been walked since Saturday as far too hot even at night. I took him out early this morning but still humid. I have air con units so had them on.

Impossiblepossibilities · 20/07/2022 11:13

So much better this morning. 19 with a lovely cool breeze first thing, so we’ve been to the park and into the village for some socialisation at last. (It’s been a real pain not being able to get him out and about for socialisation over the last few days, as he’s not the most confident puppy in the world and already had a delayed start.)

A bit warmer now at 22, but with the windows open front and back, we have a lovely breeze through the house, so it feels lovely. The mugginess last night was horrendous.

Amdone123 · 20/07/2022 16:49

@Impossiblepossibilities , god, yeah, the mugginess was horrendous. My dog did sleep better though - I think we both drifted off about 2am, woke at 8, so not too bad.
One good thing to come out of this ( I am a glass half full type person), is that when I go on holiday, and I'm missing him madly, I'll feel better knowing he's cool at home, rather than in the heat with me !
Thanks @SarahSissions , for this thread - it's been great to share with like - minded people. Made me feel calmer.

pigsDOfly · 20/07/2022 22:07

My dog has been celebrating the cooler weather all day today.

She spent Monday and Tuesday upstairs under my bed as it was probably the coolest place she could find, only coming downstairs and going out to the garden when she needed to wee.

Today she's stretched herself out on the grass in the garden in the shade of the trees and she's been sleeping out in the garden the whole evening, something she never normally does.

It's such a pleasure to see how much she's enjoying the cool air.
