It's time isn't it

My Dear Dear Dog is 12, she's a beautiful Staffy Cross and has been an amazing dog.

Over the last year we've slowly seen a decline, she's been to the vets with DH tonight for her vaccinations and the vet commented how stiff she is and how she must be in pain more than we realise. She's already on two types of painkiller and they've prescribed a third.

She needs her claws cutting because she can no longer walk far but she'll have to be put under to enable this because she won't let anybody touch her paws without getting upset. The vet isn't sure she'd survive the anesthetic.

I know what decision we need to make but it's so hard 😥

@Bexlily I’m so sorry. I lost my boy go 3 weeks ago today and it broke my heart. He was also old and arthritic and we’d exhausted all reasonable options for his age. The vet came to our house and sedated him first so he fell asleep peacefully in his own bed before she let him go. It’s definitely the way to go if you have a local vet who will come out to you. I’m so very sorry for you, it’s just awful, but it’s the last act of love and kindness you can give her.

Ah OP. It's so hard. I really feel for you, it's never an easy decision.

But better a day too soon than a day too late. The pact we make with our pets is that we will do the hardest thing when the time comes. But we do it out of love.

And grief is the price we pay for love.

At least you have the time to plan and give her a good passing.

I wish you all the best. The last thing she will see and hear will be you telling her how much you love her. It's a great gift to be able to give, really.
