Preparing for cruciate surgery

Hello
Our labradoodle needs cruciate surgery and I’m trying to get sorted for the post op recovery period which I know is going to be nightmarish.

Luckily we have a small carpeted room where he can be crated which has patio doors out to the garden. Anyone got any advice about how to manage the dog’s mental health during this time? He’s a very active dog who’s part of the family and I’m dreading having to keep him confined, but know that it’s essential for his recovery.
