Microchip transfer

Suzi69 · 25/06/2022 23:58

I recently got a new puppy and obviously the microchip has to be transferred to my name.
I found a company online, paid and …. Nothing. No email or certificate verifying transfer. I’m new to all this so not sure what response I should get but I’m pretty certain there should be something.
Please can someone tell me what should happen and how can I tell if the transfer has happened? On closer inspection the site I used doesn’t look right; there’s no customer helpline for example so I’m concerned it’s a fraudulent site.

Where did you get the puppy from? They should have given you details of the chip and how to change the details on it.

Perhaps you could ask your vet could scan the pup to check the chip details? I don't see any other way you could be sure.

What did you pay for? You shouldn't need to pay to transfer the chip into your name.

I got her from a breeder. She did give me details of the chip but just told me I had to transfer it to my name; I just did a google search for that.

Yes thanks I'm taking her next week and intend doing that. My question is once you buy a puppy from a breeder who has already registered the dog what you'd expect from a company that offers to do the transfer in terms of certification or even just email confirmation. I'm certain that I'll find out she's still registered with the breeder.

I googled transferring a microchip from one owner to another and all the companies charge a fee.

Sorry ignore me then. When I think about it we went to change ours but it turned out that the Rescue charity had already changed it to our details.

Caaarrrl · 26/06/2022 11:22

There is usually a small fee for transferring the details. Did you do it through the company that has the details for the chip? For example, when DD moves out and takes her cats with her she will need to change the details with Tracer which is the chip company used by our vet.

It's just strange that you said you found A company online, not THE company. Which suggests you didn't directly contact the company that holds the details of the chip. I have various companies for the different animals in my house depending on which chip was put in by the vet.

I found that strange too. Shouldn't the Breeder given her details of which company to contact or changed it over for her?

Thanks everyone for your input. I didn't realize that my puppy was registered with one particular company. I thought that there was a central register and that there was a choice of companies who could do the transfer.
Now I've looked again at the microchip card from the breeder I see the name of the company so I'll contact them.
Still annoyed about the fraudulent company who have taken my money and not done anything!
