Ticks!

Help!

I have a retriever, fairly long coat and he is a complete tick magnet. We went out on a walk today, came home and I pulled 4 tiny ones off his face and have hoovered about 6 so far off the floor, they've clearly been falling off his coat as he walks around.

I have two questions,

  1. Anything I can do about it!? He is on Nexguard which is supposed to be good I believe
  1. I have young children and I'm panicking they will end up with lymes disease so can I ask, if one of them had a tick bite and I noticed the tick and got it off, can I get them on antibiotics and prevent lymes disease once the tick bites is it too late? Sorry for the long winded question but I'd feel better dealing with the ticks if I knew I could rescue the kids before it was too late if that makes sense!

  1. Nexgard is good kills ticks in 8 hours.
  2. Your children can get ticks not from the dog, but from the same long grass the dog gets them from. Yes you can use a tick remover on children. Learn the bullseye rash to look for for Lyme disease.

The doctor won't prescribe antibiotics for a tick bite, but will prescribe for a bullseye rash.
