Hi all!

Vet is prescribing my boy with Fluoxetine, alongside working with the behaviourlist. He is extremely anxious with grooming and this is one of the last resorts now. They did try a mild sedative but it had no affect for him.

Just wondering if anyone has uses this with their dog and has noticed any improvement? Thanks!

It can be helpful in some dogs - it does take time to work though about 6 weeks to see a difference.

A veterinary behaviourist used Fluoxetine, alongside a behavioural programme with an extremely fear aggressive rescue we had back in the 90’s.

It definitely helped, but wasn’t a ‘cure’. Essentially it reduced his anxiety levels to the point that we were able to implement the behavioural work more effectively because he didn’t trigger as quickly and was able to stay under-threshold for longer. We were able to change his emotional response from abject terror to a bit worried over the course of the programme, but he was always a worried boy.
