Rescue pup as first time owner?

I've previously only fostered dogs from Europe but after wanting my own for a few years I'm tempted to take the plunge and adopt. A breed I really like has just had puppies at a rescue in Spain - it's not a common breed in this country but one I've previous experience with and really liked (it's a Griffon!).

Thing is, I've always thought I'd adopt a pup 'properly' - parents seen, health checked, temprement etc - but that isn't possible in this case. As a first time owner would you reccomend going ahead?

Hello, I was a first timer dog owner and for a Romanian rescue 6 years ago. She a an absolutel delight. I didn’t t know she was a rescue when I found her on a local animal shelter website. When I phoned they told me and I felt maybe I wasn’t right but they encouraged me to come and meet her. I was a bit nervous as I was nervous of dogs as a child but as soon as I met her, that was it. We learnt together and as I type she’s leaning on my leg, asleep.

Omg I LOVE Griffons!!! They are so gorgeous 😍 Go for it!

(Sorry, I'm no help 😂)

Also the shelter had neutered her, vaccines her and said she was calm and loved cuddles. They were right.

Sorry for typos.

Ah, that's reassuring @Benjispruce4 - I think you worry so much about failing the dog don't you? It's lovely to hear she is with you and safe now.

@XelaM Me too! They're so sturdy, with massive paws. I've only met a few but this one is a Bleu de Gascogne and so beautiful! I had one for a while that would just launch into any body of water it could find!

PA I’m for rescuing dogs. Don’t feed the breeding industry. So many pups without homes

Lizzieismagic · 05/06/2022 20:13

Benjispruce4 · 05/06/2022 20:14

PS not PA

Benjispruce4 · 05/06/2022 20:15

Absolutely . Mine was in U.K. but had already been brought over from Romania.

ColinAllOccupantsOfInterplanetaryCraft · 05/06/2022 20:15

@Lizzieismagic Yes, that's true! I've just been on the Many Tears website and there have been loads added in the last week. No Griffs tho :(

@Benjispruce4 Yes, that's the other thing. I've always rescued and would intend to do so if I was to adopt - it would always be my preference!
