When to cut down to two meals?

Our puppy is 19 weeks old and fed on kibble 3 times a day. He's recently started to be uninterested in his lunch. Is it too soon to switch him to two meals a day?

Oh he has a scrambled egg on a morning as well as kibble, forgot to mention that.

When they reach doggy puberty.
So for a Chihuahua that might be six months (but some like to feed tiny dog three times a day for ever)
For a Geman Pointer more like 18 months.

What breed is he?
How big were mum and dad?

He's a cavapoo with a miniature poodle dad. Mum's a medium sized cavapoo.

We have 13 week old Shih Tzu's. They are fed three times a day, kibble for breakfast, puppy sachet for lunch and boiled chicken thigh with veggies for dinner.
They are slowly going off the kibble I've noticed. The only meal they seem to really enjoy is the chicken at dinner. They eat every single bit of that.
We plan to stick to three meals a day for a year.

We have a beagle and dropped to two meals at around 5-6 months of age. I really don't think it matters as long as they get enough food over the course of the day. As an adult he gets one meal a day plus a couple of chews.

Many people don't even feed meals and just use the kibble as treats throughout the day.

The reason they're not eating their kibble is because you're replacing one of their meals with boiled chicken, lol.

Hmm. Dry kibble or boiled chicken?

Hardly surprising that any dog is going to prefer the chicken.

I don't understand this fashion for feeding dogs on dry biscuits. Surely most dogs would prefer meaty food.

TBH, me neither. Mine does get kibble but it's always mixed in with wet food or used in enrichment activities to make it more interesting. He will eat it plain out of the bowl occasionally, but not often.

Generally at 6 months move to 2 meals a day regardless of breed or size. But of course be driven by the dog.

I feed mine up until around 9-12 months. As long as they’re not being over fed and they’re correctly exercised, I don’t see it as a problem. :)

Having had a dog on wet meat for 16 years, I am very grateful that our current dog loves his kibble. It's infinitely easier to feed and if he stays at a dog sitters', all I need to do is provide a small bag of his dry food. And he has very healthy teeth (unlike my previous dog who was on wet food) and a very shiny coat.

As for the number of meals, both our previous dog and the current one are food-mad, so we always kept their meals at 3 times a day (just adjust the quantity). Both dogs have always been slim.

Think our medium sized dog was about 5 months when he became disinterested in his lunch meal. He just wouldn't eat it or would pick at it. I swapped to two meals a day and he went back to eating it all again.
