My dog seems to have gone off his dry dog food. He won’t eat it on its own but will usually eat it if mixed with a half a food can/tin of sardines/boiled fish/raw mince. But lately he is just eating around it and having all the fish/ meat/ but leaving the kibble. How can I ensure he gets all the nutrients he needs if he doesn’t eat the kibble? We have tried different brands but he eats them for a week or so and then starts to leave them.

Can you not just give him wet food instead?

If it's all hard food he's avoiding, though, I would want a vet check to make sure his teeth are okay.

Kibble is dry and probably boring for a lot of dogs but if that's all they have to eat most will probably eat it.

Why do you want him to eat kibble particularly. It isn't some magic bullet full of nutrients. If fact most kibbles are full of artificial colours and additives, it's what makes them keep their colour and shape.

Just find him a good quality wet food and feed him on the wet food he enjoys.

I’d take to vets and get his teeth checked. If all ok, and you want to persevere with the kibble I’d stop swapping it out, you’re just teaching him it’s ok to be fussy and if you want to use a topper I’d microwave it (just the wet) and mix it with a bit of hot water to pour over make it a bit more gravy like a soften the kibble a bit.

We put the kibble in a small amount of warm water and he much prefers it.

Also we only give him wet food in his evening meal which seems to help.
