Itch etc. - subscription for worm/flea treatment?

I just cancelled the overpriced flea/worm subscription by our vet. Are there any good value subscriptions you would recommend? Otherwise I am happy to just set myself a reminder!

It depends on what flea/wormer you are giving. Most vets subscriptions are cheaper if you are giving a monthly oral tablet just on the flea/wormer medication alone.

I would imagine they are only sending you OTC products so it would be cheaper to just get them yourself , but bear in mind that some OTC stuff doesn’t actually work anymore as the fleas are resistant . Our vet plan is about £16 per month and that still saves me money on monthly flea / worm stuff and his vaccinations.

We use Itch for flea treatment for our 2 dogs, it is vet approved and costs £16 per month (£8 each dog), they are both medium size. I love that it means I don't have to remember when it is due, just apply it the day it arrives.

We did add wormer to the order to be delivered every 3 months, but cancelled it. It is a tablet and I prefer the drontal as it is more like a dog treat so easier to get the dogs to take it.

What does vet approved mean though?

I had a look on their site before and couldn’t work out if they were comparing their stuff to over the counter ones or prescription ones.

Itch cover round worm and tape worm (you do not need to treat for tape worm montly). It does not cover lungworm which is a killer and does need wormcounting or treatment regularly

The flea and tick treatment contains fipronil and s-methoprene which is not a great product (and not that effective against ticks anymore. It will allow ticks to attach but only kills them after 48 hours by which time your dog will be infected by lyme disease if they are a carrier.

The products do not offer full cover and have ingredients that are being tick resistant so really you are wasting your money using Itch. * *

Which products do you use?

Medication offering full cover woud be nexguard spectra monthly with 6 monthly treament for tapeworm.

I worm count my dogs and medicate when needed. Daily check for ticks and fleas. This is not the cheapest option.
