My DS has gone away this weekend, well for 6 days, and I am dog sitting his 2 dogs. They know me as I do stay over a lot but never have they been left for longer than overnight with me. My DS left on Thursday and for the first couple of days they were fine but the older one is now whining and sleeping on the floor, he would normally snuggle under the covers with me contentedly. Is this something to be concerned about, could it be because he misses my DS, he doesnt like being alone and when I took the bins out this evening he greeted me like he had only just seen me which makes me think he feels my DS has gone for good and he is missing him.

He has now stopped whining as I am typing this but for him to sleep on the floor is odd, he is a whippet and loves being cosy in bed or on the sofa so seems really strange. I feel sorry for him and want to make him feel safe and loved, I spend time playing with him, and my DS organised for a couple of friends to walk them for me as I am nervous around other dogs. Whippets seem to attract dogs on walks as are very social.

Its not high pitched so he doesnt seem in pain and has stopped now, I called my DS and he said he just moans for attention and fuss (but I have played and cuddled him most of today. My DS isnt concerned but it seems odd for him to be lying on the floor while me and the other one are snuggled in bed.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can make him feel happier, or reassure me that sometimes dogs prefer the floor to a comfy bed

I have been away for the week end. My Lurcher won't look at me! They are ime huffy!!
Not sure without pics you even have pointy hounds op..

Mine lies on the floor when he’s hot.
Can you try putting a blanket on the floor to make him more comfy ?
Dogs like routine, try and keep the same routine he is used to.

I feel like PFB with him, but he is now in bed next to me, so I dont need to worry, although when I went to stroke him he turned his head away, I think he may be sulking about something but not sure what :)

Luna is the black and white one, very content and Wilbur is the one that seems to be missing my DS

Yes, that could be it, as normally they go under the covers but even Luna is on the top of the quilt. so maybe they are hot :)

We took 1 camping.
Apparently sleeping alone isn't very camping spirited...
So...

KangarooKenny · 24/04/2022 21:50

They are so lucky to be at their home with you. I wish I had someone to stay at home with mine, he doesn’t like going to the dog sitter. There’s nothing wrong with the sitter, he would just rather be at home.

Jenasaurus · 24/04/2022 21:50

here is one of him normally, he is always all over me and wants to be as close as he can, this was me on a face time. Concentrate on Wilbur in the photo and not my hideous face :)

Thats why my DS asked me, but its Luna who doesnt like the dog boarding place, Wilbur is fine there. My DS refers to me as Nanny Jen to the dogs (no GC) and they always get excited to see me. They have opened my eyes to dogs as I was always so scared of them, but love these 2 so much.

thought fellow whippet owners may appreciate this is when Wilbur met Luna for the first time. I don’t think he knew what to make of her
