Dog being castrated today

I'm feeling really wobbly about it, I don't know what's gotten into me! He looked so sad going into the vets and I'm suddenly really anxious about all the risks and fretting about why we are even doing this.

What if it changes him too much? He is such a lovely boy 😔(Marking and humping aside!!)

Please someone give my head a wobble!!

Both my male dogs I’ve owned are/were castrated and they were exactly the same dog afterwards. The one who’s since sadly deceased was absolutely bouncing off the walls at the vet after he’d come round and they had to ring me to collect him early 😀

He will be ok but don't be too shocked if he is wobbly or cries when he comes home (mine did and it was the drugs). He will be fine in a couple of days and then you will be tearing your hair out trying to keep him calm so he doesn't injure himself while he heals.

Thanks both, he is home now and feeling very sorry for himself. I have actual dog mum guilt! Hopefully he will perk up over the next few days.

I'm sure he'll be fine in the morning!

Mine slept and was wobbly all day when we got him home, and didn't want to do much the following day, but 48 hours after the surgery and you wouldn't know he'd had it done - he had so much energy and just wanted to leap off everything HmmGrin

I've had all my dogs castrated. They have never changed. Uncastrated ones that I know are a nucience at marking in people's homes and chasing female dogs.

Hi @WestminsterCrabby how is he doing? Just had mine done yesterday and I feel exactly the same as you!

My dog was done last month he was fine the next day best thing was the suit we got off the vet to keep him from having a nosey or a lick. He wore for 2 weeks and I washed it ever other day. He's really calmed down on walks we don't have to stop at ever lamp post, bin, wall end!!

@PussInBin20 we are 10 days on now and he is absolutely fine! Wound is healing well and most of the swelling has gone down. And most importantly he was fully back to his sunny self within a day. Hope yours is doing okay?

Ahh that’s good to hear, I was wondering if we did the right thing! Mine is ok but hating the cone on his head - he keeps scaring himself each time he bashes the cone on something, poor thing.

He seems a bit depressed about it so looking forward to Saturday when it comes off.

WestminsterCrabby · 01/05/2022 20:19

@PussInBin20 can you get him one of the tshirts? Mine hated the cone too so we borrowed one from someone else. He didn't love that either but far better than that damn cone!

Yes I did consider one but he would probably just eat it tbh. He chews blankets and soft toys so the cone it is lol. He is perkier in himself but doesn’t want to go for a 10 min walk. I did try but he just sits himself down and won’t budge! Oh well roll on Saturday.

hope yours is still all good x
