Had to have my 8 year old bichon PTS yesterday

Had my little best friend PTS yesterday. He had a short, sudden illness and became very weak, very fast and did not respond to treatment. Yesterday we decided the kindest thing was to PTS.
I always thought I couldn’t cope with that decision but yesterday it was a heartbreaking choice but an easy one. He was suffering, he wasn’t going to come back from this but it hurts so much and I miss him terribly! 💔
Sleep tight little pal, he’ll be loved and missed forever 🐾

I’m sorry for your loss Flowers

Aww so sorry, it’s a horrible decision to make, but the kindest thing you can do for a beloved pet. Take it easy OP, it will get easier but it takes time.

I'm so sorry for your loss and know how much your heart is hurting right now. if only our canine pals could be with us for so much longer. But what joy and unconditional love they bring us in the time they're our companion. Much love to you Flowers

It’s so so hard to lose a beloved dog. Sending you a virtual hug Flowers

Thank you all so muchFlowers. The house seems so quiet and empty now, even with 5 of us in it. The kids are heartbroken and we had lots of tearful moments today. It feels like a stabbing pain, so real and we just miss his little face so much Sad. I’m sure it’ll get easier but for now it is so tough. Out little fur babies leave their mark for sure. Thanks for the lovely, kind comments Flowers

I’m sorry for your loss. My childhood Bichon was PTS many years ago now but I still remember and occasionally miss her. Really special animals.

AmberLynn1536 · 18/04/2022 01:11

Very sorry for the loss of your lovely dog, I hope you take comfort that you did the best thing for them, giving them a peaceful end with no suffering, it’s a heartbreaking time, I really feel for you Flowers.

I'm so sorry 💐 but I'm sure you have him the best life.
It's so hard having to have a loved one PTS. I've had to do that with my beloved cat who had cancer.
He was with me through a really tough time (divorce) and he was lovely.
It was hell, but the right thing to do.
My partners dog is 16 and nearing end of life but he will keep her going as long as possible - acupuncture fortnightly, vitamin supplements etc. I fear the day when she does go as he will be broken.
My mum still keeps a photo of our family dog in her purse. He died, aged 17 when I was 18. I'm 51 now and she would never have another dog.
My pony died aged 30 - that was very hard.

@Emelene, they are so special. Full of love, fun and mischief. Thank you for your kind words. Flowers…. Isn’t it lovely to have the treasured memories.
@AmberLynn1536, thank you.Flowers
@timestheyarechanging, so sorry to hear about your beloved cat and that your partners dogs is so ill. Letting go is so tough but ye will know when the time is right, that doesn’t make it any easier though Flowers. Like your Mum, I’ll never forget him, I just know it and I wouldn’t want to either, we had such good times.
Heartbroken again this morning again just reailising he is not waiting for me ….. he gave the best welcomes!

Thanks again to all replied, the support and kind words mean so much. I wasn’t up to answering individual comments yesterday but they meant so much, sincere thanks Flowers

We had to make the same decision for our dog when she became ill and we knew she wouldn’t recover - it’s part of what puts us off getting another dog!

At the end of the day, as heartbreaking as it is, you can feel that you’ve done the right thing. Dogs aren’t like us, they can’t express their pains and they don’t understand what’s happening to them. Allowing them a dignified death while they still have some quality of life is much better than letting them live as long as possible scared and in pain. I think it shows more love to let them go when it’s time.

disgirl2 · 18/04/2022 23:30

@Kanaloa, thank you. Yes, it’s so difficult, sorry you had to experience it too.Sad
