Juno and Cleo

Are they too similar for doggy sisters?
We have Juno who is 16 months and about to adopt a 4 month old girl. We love Cleo but Im concerned they sound too similar. Trying to convince myself they aren’t.

Other contenders are:
Nell
Quinn
Gigi (I’m not so keen on this one)
Orla
Bree

I think they're fine. Yes, they both end with O but the vowel sound in the middle is sufficiently different IMO.

Now it’s between Cleo and Orla with Cleo still the favourite.
The more I say Cleo, Juno, the better it sounds.

Go with Cleo if its your preferred name but have a backup name in case Juno thinks its too close to hers and she responds to both names due to the o sound. She probably won't but if you don't have a backup then she definitely will

I think when you're attracting their attention, if you make a point of calling "Juuuuuuuno" and "Cleeeeeeo" with the emphasis on the first vowel rather than the O, you'll be fine.

Dogs preferentially focus on vowels. So what they're hearing it probably closer to "Uuuuu-o" and "Eeeee-o"

I think it's fine as long as you emphasise the first vowel and not the second when calling them.

Plus my experience of having multiple dogs is, if you call one, they either all turn up (because name calling means treats) or none of them do (because there's so much distracting rabbit poo in the world). If you actually want to train them to a level where you can have them both in front of you, and tell Juno to sit and she does, and tell Cleo to spin and she does, then you might need to think again. But that's rather beyond what most pet owners are interested in.

She ended up as Orla.
Day 3. She’s adorable. Juno has a love/hate relationship with her which can be stressful at times. It’s better than day 1 though!
