13y JRT here blind with diabetes, x 3 injections daily was fine 3 days ago but has been very vacant, staring at wall not wanting to walk around, seems scared. Yelped when touched back legs yesterday, went to vets and they gave him pain relief injection and is for review Tuesday. One minute he is really ok, eating and drinking, pooing and peeing but next so vacant it's like he doesn't know where he is. Happy to sit next to you but not wanting a cuddle. I'm so hopeful he will perk up. Has anyone got any hope for me.

Ahh, I feel for you. I love JRT. It does sound like your lovely dog is poorly. It's really hard, but I have always gone by the mantra "better day too soon than a week too late". When we love pets the last thing we want is for them to suffer at all. I hope that he does improve and that you get a bit longer, it is so difficult Thanks I'm sure he knows that you love him

It really sounds like it is the time to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go. It’s so very hard but you have to do what’s best for him, not you. I don’t mean to be harsh and I’ve been through this several times. It doesn’t get any easier.

Love and fuss him tomorrow and Monday and steel yourself for heartbreak on Tuesday. Be brave and know that if it’s time, and it sounds very much like it is, you are doing the kindest thing for your lovely boy.

This is the worst worst thing about having a pet, we love them so much and they are part of our families it's an awful thing to have to do but it sounds like the time is coming for your lovely boy. I love JRTs my favourite dog breed. I have a 7 years old and I'm already dreading and worrying about the day when I have to make that decision I honestly don't know how I will cope I love him so much and can't imagine him not being in my life. please don't let your boy suffer though if he's in lots of pain I understand it is hard though Flowers

Thank you all for your kind words. I can't stop crying every time I look at him. He's panting a lot with very fast breathing, very vacant at times and wincing when moved, however has some moment of clarity and seems to be back to 'semi-normal' it's heartbreaking to watch.

Just trying to enjoy the next few days just incase. He's a lovely old boy and has really been the best ddog.

Thanks all, the words have helped especially better a day too soon than a week too late. Thanks
