Hey guys. What is the best alternative to raw food? I've been looking at the Forthglade wet food. Can anyone recommend them? Or give me other recommendations. I've been on all about dog food but wondered about personal experience.. Thank you xx

Mine has a mix of Akela wet and dry food. We tried so many different foods and this is the only one she seems to enjoy/finish the meal!

Thanks both for the recommendations Smile

Wolfworthy. I discovered it about a year ago and haven't looked back. It's 80%meat 20%veg. I was really struggling with feeding raw due to lack of space but didn't really want to move away. This has been perfect.

@peonyandpeaches I did look into this but one of my dogs can't have chicken unfortunately. I have seen rave reviews so I am sad I can't try xx

they have extra big 60% discount if you use a referral code currently.

I also find it cheap if you have a smaller dog you can order larger packs and make them last 2 days - works out cheaper than ordering 2 smaller packs for the 2 days.

We use the Innocent Hound air dried raw food for my fussy pup - she can’t have chicken either but they have a decent range. Not cheap but we tried so many that she either lost interest in straight away or they gave her an upset tummy so we’re sticking with this one!

Depends what you mean by the best alternative.

Raw food is a high protein diet so if you want dry or wet food look for high protein if you want to emulate a raw diet.

Some food like ziwipeak is very high protein and meat content and very little else. It is air dried so the cooking should not wreck the nutrition. So on paper probably the closest to raw food (that has been cooked!) and very high protein diet (like raw)

Forthglade is generally high in meat but wet cooked food will have some nutrients affected by the cooking process.

However there are reasons some dogs may need grain!

Generally find a food that has meat as its main ingredient and your dog has good poos correct weight and stick to it- you can spend hours looking for food, taking in everyones ideas and all dogs are different.

Hope you find one that suits you and your budget.

Hi @PollyRoulllson.. I've been feeding raw for a good while and have no problems. However space is becoming an issue along with cost. As raw is highly rated on AADF, I wanted something which was good quality. I am not opposed to feeding grains and I don't pretend to be an expert in dog food but wanted some advice as to what people would recommend as I am always anxious with change. Xx

welshdaisy There is such a big choice of dog food it can be very overwhelming!

If your dog is used to raw and was doing well on it then that makes it easier. So choose a high meat content food it is up to you if you want to use kibble or wet just personal choice really no major nutriional benefit between the two.

Forthglade is high in meat so will be a good food to change to if your dog is happy with it. If your dogs poos are fine etc then change and do not worry about it - your dog will be fine Smile .

Naturediet , especially the purely range .

MabelMoo23 · 29/03/2022 22:56

I’m on a raw fed Facebook group and the general consensus seems to be that Forthglade is the best alternative

When we travel and raw isn’t an option we give ours orijen kibble on those occasions
