When to switch to 2 meals

I have a 7 month old cocker spaniel. She loves her food and is currently on 3 meals a day. When should you switch to 2 meals and did you replace with a snack in the middle of the day?

Ddog was always on two meals a day, so not help on timings, but I would just gradually reduce the middle meal and increase the other two.

Would avoid a daily snack, as a) likely to be less healthy than proper food, and b) they are still relying on being fed something in the middle of the day which means you always have to organise your day with that in mind.

Ok, yes of course reduce the lunchtime meal. Many thanks for your advice.

You don't have to switch to 2 at all if 3 still works for you. Our lab is 10 months old and we still feed three times a day.

We switched our lab to 2 meals a day when he was around 6 months. I think it took 1 week to cut out the middle meal. As he likes carrots, we quite often give him a carrot to chew on around lunch time.

No need to drop if three meals works for you.

We only feed one meal a day and he has a low fat natural chew mid morning as well.

Mine is 7 and still on 3 meals! We're both quite happy with it! Grin

If you would like to reduce the number of meals my rule of thumb is:
4 meals to 16 weeks
3 meals to 6 months
2 meals to a year.

This is based on stomach size and the volume of good quality food that a puppy would need to eat,
