What do I do if my dog dies at home?

I think my dog is dying. I have a vet appt at 315 and stupidly didn't book vet appointment yesterday as I truly thought she would die and I didn't want her messed with or distressed by going in car etc
I don't know if I can deal with her dead body myself. Do I just take her to the vet if she dies?

I’ve had two dogs die in their sleep at home, both had seen the vets just before and in both cases although they were old it wasn’t expected. I imagine to get the dog collected would be very expensive, we took the first dog to the blue cross as it was out of hours, the second dog we took to our vets. FYI when you pick them up, if their bladder is full, it will empty! We also had a re homed dog that died when out for a walk, she was only eight and had a heart attack or seizure when running for a ball, that was awful.

I lost my dog to renal failure last year- sounds very similar. I'm so sorry OP, it's so hard to lose them but she'll have had an amazing life with you

She was a Pomeranian
She was only 6.5 years old. So young

Too short but certainly made an impact. Take care of yourself.

I'm so sorry OP.

Something similar happened to Ddog last Sunday. We thought he was just aging a bit so was slowing down. However he suddenly deteriorated and we had to rush him to hospital where he was PTS. It was such a shock.

It is devastating isn't it?

We were offered cremation but Ddog was buried in our garden.

We had our two put down at home. Both hated the vets and would get stressed just driving into their carpark. They took them away both times and arranged the cremation

Aw op I had my baby girl put to sleep in January for renal failure and I knew before she was seen by the vets that she was dying. I just knew. I had a guy feeling and I saw she was suffering and even if it was fixable, it would have returned and the damage was done and it would have prolonged her suffering.

I don't know if you're into gardening, but our vets sent me some forget-me-not seeds and I thought that was really sweet.

We have always bought a new plant for our late loved ones, it's a wonderful way to celebrate their life.

I hope you find peace soon.
