Insurance recommendations!

As above really. TBH I've never insured a dog of ours before but my springer neatly worked his way through about 10k in vets fees over the last 7 years, so new pup is being insured! I'm currently looking at Bought by Many - anyone use it or have other recommendations? Ta!

LV= are good, I’ve used animal friends in the past and they are good as well. Pet plan have an excellent reputation but can be a little expensive.
I have to say I am put off BBM because they pay their customers to recommend them, so to me it seems like a less genuine recommendation because they are getting paid to do it Hmm

OrlandointheWilderness · 09/03/2022 11:45

Thank you, I've not looked at LV= and Animal friends yet. BBM offer better cover than PetPlan but are a bit more expensive. I didn't know that about BBM!

Personally wouldn’t touch Animal Friends. Do check who your vet will claim from directly. Ours won’t with them.

OrlandointheWilderness · 09/03/2022 11:58

thank you, yes good point.

John Lewis insurance have been absolutely incredible for me, payment receive within a week for operation, very quick and easy and didn't massively hike my renewal either!

Arucanafeather · 09/03/2022 12:04

Pet plan has best reputation for actually paying out I believe. Vets aren’t allowed to give recommendations but I’m sure they can do what pp suggested and tell you who they are willing to claim off directly.

BiteyShark · 09/03/2022 18:01

I have claimed many many times from petplan and had no issues at all. The last time I claimed which was only a few weeks back they approved it the next day and the money was in my account 2 days later.

However I have never used any other company as this is my first dog so I can't compare.

I recommend though to get as much cover per year as you can afford without any condition limit and make sure it is a life cover.

GrouchyKiwi · 09/03/2022 18:06

I use Animal Friends. Dog had CCL surgery last year and they've been very good. Her treatment crossed over into a new insurance year, and they let me know she would still be covered.

bare · 09/03/2022 18:11

I've put my dog on my house insurance, I'm with the NFU and they are used to farmers with dogs, so maybe that's why it wasn't a big deal for them Smile

gogohm · 09/03/2022 18:12

I've always used Tesco pet insurance. They paid up last time (£6k) and I've just put in a further £3k in

Stellaris22 · 09/03/2022 18:46

We use BBM and never been offered to recommend them!

They paid out quickly and we have lifetime cover.

Sockpile · 09/03/2022 18:52

I also use BBM and they have so far paid out quickly and without issue.

Girlintheframe · 10/03/2022 07:21

I use BBM too. Only claimed from them once and can't fault how quickly and painlessly they dealt with it all.
Never heard of people being paid to recommend them.
We have the lifetime plan and would definitely use them again.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 10/03/2022 08:07

We're with Tesco and have never had an issue. Three cats and a dog insured by them under their lifetime policies.

I was also previously insured on them for driving and when I had an accident, they paid out immediately and were really helpful.

Would definitely recommend Smile

MabelMoo23 · 10/03/2022 11:30

I’m about to bring Mabelpup home and agonising about BBM. If you go on Twitter there are lots of unhappy people, and also they’ve recently got a lot of bad trustpilot reviews. Lots of people saying their premium has been hiked massively, other saying taking ages to pay back claims and it’s made me a bit hesitant to choose them. Especially as our lifetime care £15k cover will cost £36 a month, but if it’s going to keep getting hiked up each year then that starts becoming a concerning amount.

I’m now tempted by Waggel at £30 ppm for £10k lifetime cover, less cover but they certainly don’t have the bad reviews that BBM seem to be getting very recently

AwkwardPaws27 · 10/03/2022 11:52

We're with BBM on the Fixed for Life policy, although I don't think is still available for new customers.
They've paid out £8k in the last 8-9 months without a quibble.

JaimeLannister · 10/03/2022 19:11

Go with a company that your vet will accept payment from without you having to pay the bill first. I've always used Direct Line. Found them expensive as the dog ages but have always paid out every claim with no issues.

Ilovethecinema · 13/03/2022 15:42

Petplan, wouldn’t use anyone else. Only insurer my vet will accept direct payment from. They’ve paid my class 4 claims within 2 days. Admittedly not the cheapest, best I’ve ever used over the years.

Ilovethecinema · 13/03/2022 15:42

PugInTheHouse · 15/03/2022 10:40

I have just got really good quotes from both Tesco and Asda for lifetime policies. Never had pet insurance with either but car insurance with Tesco and they paid out extremely quickly for a write off of our car.

I am debating how much to get still, somewhere between 6&10k I am thinking

PugInTheHouse · 15/03/2022 10:41

My quote from BBM was absolutely extortionate, well over double all the others bizarrely.
