Is Rover reliable for dog sitters?

Found a dog sitter on rover after a friend recommended the app. He seems lovely - no red flags - and my friend has had a good experience with the app so far. But I still feel a bit apprehensive! It'd be our first time leaving our 3yo with a "stranger" and I'm paranoid about dog theft in particular... any thoughts? Thank you!

Just to add - our dog is easygoing so I'm not worried about that side of things. We are just in the middle of a logistical nightmare, and I don't want to leave her alone in a place she's not familiar with for an entire afternoon, hence looking for a sitter.

Honestly I wouldn’t. They might be great with dogs but unless they are a professional and insured I wouldn’t touch it. If they have the dog in their own homes then they need to be licensed with the local council. Absolutely anyone can sign up and as Rover isn’t a UL based company they don’t have to comply with any UK regulations.

Rover is basically just Google for pet-care. Anyone can upload a profile on there and Rover don't do any checks on them.

Why not ask local dog walkers instead?
