@GuyFawkesDay doesn’t the implant still change testosterone levels though?

Daycare are very firm on the 12 months as a cut off, although they’d keep his place for a while if we decided to delay.

I wondered why the thread was so quiet - a new one was started!

IndyPup celebrated being 12 weeks old today by ripping 3 teeth holes in the sleeve of my brand new sweatshirt Angry

He goes from angel pup to bitey, jumpy, barky devil dog. I'm reading perhaps it's over stimulation?!

Trying to ignore him doesn't seem to work, neither does a stern "no". Any suggestions?!

Autumn101 · 10/03/2022 18:53

When mine goes into that crazy bitey mode he goes in his crate - 9/10 he’s tired and overstimulated so has a nap and wakes up far more reasonable!

We’ve started putting ChenPup in another room if he starts biting and doesn’t stop with a firm no and folded arms/turn away/repeat. He’s only allowed back into the room when he’s ready to behave. Alternatively I leave the room and shut the door behind me. He does not like being left on his own though so it works for him - not sure if it would work for your pup?
GuyFawkesDay · 10/03/2022 21:58

@TheBigMacDougal yes, but it's temporary. If he gets on with it then we will have him snipped. Much as I'd love another mini him I think I'd be tempting fate!!

Going to crufts on the weekend though 😁

PugInTheHouse · 10/03/2022 21:58

@ABitBesotted hes cute isn't he, his dad is a Czechoslovakian wolf dog/GSD and mum is Alaskan Malamute. He looks like a toy lol.

We are on day 4 teenage boot camp with naughty whippet. She turned 6 months and morphed into adolescence with avengence. Everything got a bit too full on and baby behaviour was rapidly becoming naughty. So firm boundaries and distraction techniques are in place but it is so full on and she cannot be left to her devices for a second or she makes her own entertainment.

Amazing action shots, she looks so fast!

Pups is at his first morning of puppy preschool today, I felt a bit sick dropping him off…… I’m back at work in a few weeks and whilst I can manage most of the time they’ll be occasions I have to be on very sensitive case calls and can’t have a barking lunatic in the background. He went in wagging so fingers crossed. I don’t know what to do with myself now, the house feels very quiet

BaconAndAvocado · 11/03/2022 08:53

PugInTheHouse
Our Lab is 8 ninths and already massive so my tip for you would be to either work on training (doesn't work for our boy) or get a halti/figure of 8 lead.
We are trying the latter before he does me a serious injury 😂

Aria20 · 11/03/2022 09:06

@Didiplanthis wow super fast - my dog would love to try and chase her!

Get a cuppa and enjoy the peace for half an hour! Then start worrying about him again.. then distract yourself by doing something you haven’t been able to do for months.. then repeat the cycle until pick up.

It was just like picking up a toddler from nursery - filthy, happy and knackered 😂

Thereisnolight · 11/03/2022 13:03

9 month old retriever with previously good recall now recently started to chase bicycles. A problem.

Also chases joggers but a man kicked him yesterday. Unpleasant person but actually I hope it taught pup a lesson!

Awwwww.

My dog is four months old today. Tempus fugit.

Blahblahblah40 · 11/03/2022 13:42

Aww brilliant @Autumn101. He will be keen when he goes back then!

God that would scare me @Thereisnolight bikes move so fast could easily do some damage! Awful the jogger kicked pup, totally unnecessary, but can also understand the fear if you have headphones or something in and an excited dog appears out of nowhere. Hope you gave him what for.

tizwozliz · 11/03/2022 13:55

Pup refused her lunch again today, transferred it to fine china instead of her normal bowl and she ate it straight away!

tizwozliz I see you too have a Lab pup.
Does she pull on the lead?

tizwozliz · 11/03/2022 15:50

@BaconAndAvocado No, she's pretty good re: pulling. Not perfect but easily manageable. We put a lot of work in very early on after seeing a friends lab pulling them along and she was never allowed to pull and we made sure most walks only required 5 mins of nice on lead walking either end because it's hard work for most pups.

Now on pavements/hard surfaces she'll walk nicely for quite a while, less reliable in more interesting environments but we try not to expect too much of her. Her recall is really good right now so she's off lead 90% of our walks at the moment.

GuyFawkesDay · 11/03/2022 16:59

I love that pup is a classy lady. None of that steel or plastic bowls for her! So sweet.

Mine is still a gannet over food as long as there's some wet with it. He's down to 2 meals a day now and finally the chewing and mouthing is going down. At last!! Been replaced by bed humping 🙄

Great pics @Didiplanthis

Enjoy your peace and quiet @Autumn101, sounds like pup loves it!!!

tizwozliz · 11/03/2022 17:04

We'll try the same for this evenings food to see if it was a one off or not. We've just been to the vet to pick up our flea and worm treatment and she's over 0.5 kg lighter than last month. Although that was at the end of her season when she hadn't been having the same amount of exercise so we'll keep an eye on her weight.

OP posts:
BaconAndAvocado · 11/03/2022 17:37

tizwozliz I probably expect too much of my Lab too. I often forget how young he is as he's such a lump!

Off lead he's brilliant and his recall has improved loads.

His walks are on the beach every day, it's just the getting there that can be painful re pulling.
On the way home he's usually too tired to pull.

PugInTheHouse · 11/03/2022 18:05

@BaconAndAvocado we'll definitely give the training a go, will see what happens Grin
