Chlorambucil

My DDog is starting a course of oral chemotherapy which will be administered at home. He was having a fortnightly injection but unfortunately this regime has to change. Has anyone had experience of Chlorambucil? I have another dog at home and I’m worried about the effect the drug could have on her regarding bodily fluids/accidentally sharing a food or water bowl etc. Of course I’ll be careful, but has anyone out there had any experience of this drug or any tips?
I’m just heartbroken about the whole situation and the vet told me today that it’s not safe for the other dogs so he has to stop his twice weekly visits to daycare. He loves daycare and I’m gutted for him.

I had a cat on it for five years, with another cat and a dog in the house too. The two cats shared food and water and litter trays... and the cat drank out of the dog’s bowl when she felt like it as well.

When I got all the information I was honestly terrified, I wasn’t convinced at all that it was workable with other pets and kids, but the oncologist said that basically the warnings are standard with that type of drug even though with animals it’s a much lower dose than they’d ever give a person and even with people it affecting anyone else was pretty rare.

The second cat is still about, she’s 12 and literally only ever been to vet for her MOTs, so I’m guessing he was right, lol

tabulahrasa That's very reassuring, thank you so much for responding.

I live alone with my two dogs so should be able to manage, no children to worry about. If the drug does some good then it will be worth it.

Thanks again.
