The bells!

I've had my 14 week old cockapoo for 12 days. House training is going OK ish but I think her signs to tell me that she wants to go out are too subtle!

I bought some bells to hang on the door, they arrived about an hour ago. I showed her how to use her paw to ring the bell followed by me opening the door and giving her a treat. I wasn't very hopeful.

One hour later and she has rung the bell 3 times and been for 1 poo and 2 wees!

I'm re-naming her Einstein!

Long may it last!

This is awesome! Where did you get the bells? (We just paid a deposit on a cavapoo puppy so watching with interest).

Amazing! You'll have to let us know if the success continues or if it was a fluke 🤞

Easy to do - our doodle always rings the bells to go out. But be warned that will drive you mad in the end too! Smile

My friend's dog got too clever he just started ringing the bells every time he fancied a potter in the garden Grin

Our miniature dachshund pup comes home next Friday and bells have crossed my mind

As I said before our doodle picked up the bell thing really quickly. She also picked up on the fact that I throw a treat onto the mat to get some damp off her paws, so now she rings the bell to go out to come in to a treat! hahaha

I said I would report back, so here I am. It kind of works. Still having couple accidents a day so not sure quite where I am going wrong?! She does ring the bells to go out but not every time.

I let her out regularly anyway which my DH reckons is leading to prompt dependence. Maybe. Maybe I should remove the prompt. I'm not sure.
