How much do you pay for keyhole spaying?

Our vet mentioned £300. Owner we’ve bought dog from says that is expensive.

OP posts:
axolotlfloof · 27/02/2022 08:11

We paid about this for for a traditional spay.
I think this is what it costs.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 27/02/2022 08:25

Sounds about right depending on the weight of the dog.

Spays are more complicated than male neuters and will always cost more money.

Anonaymoose · 27/02/2022 08:39

That's cheap. How much do you think a complicated surgery involving an experienced surgeon, qualified nurse/anaesthetist, surgical packs, anaesthetic drugs etc should cost? The equipment used for lap spay cost in the region of 50k, it has to be paid for somehow.

Stellaris22 · 27/02/2022 10:50

Our vet did it depending on size of the dog, but that sounds about right. It's one of the many costs we factored in before buying our dog.

powershowerforanhour · 27/02/2022 10:59

It's cheap.

"Owner we’ve bought dog from says that is expensive."

How much did you pay for the pup? Did its parents cost the breeder £50k and did she need to go on a 5 year full time course to learn how to breed dogs with further expensive training on dog breeding?

SilverHairedCat · 27/02/2022 11:01

£300 is very cheap. We were quoted more like £600 for a 17kg dog.

It does depend on the size of the dog and the length of time the dog is on the table.

CMOTDibbler · 27/02/2022 12:37

That is cheap. My local vet is £300 for a normal spay (less than 25kg dog), and £410 for a lap spay for less than 15kg or £495 for less than 35kg

Alwaystheplusone · 27/02/2022 13:23

Some of the replies on here are pretty sneery. OP didn’t have a clue what it cost which is why they posted on here, in a dog forum.

EmmaJR1 · 27/02/2022 13:40

Keyhole spaying cost us £380 3 years ago

powershowerforanhour · 27/02/2022 15:39

I'm not sneering at the OP who has sensibly sought a range of views here. I'm sneering at the the breeder whining about the cost whilst probably coining it (probably tax free) selling pups.

*disclosure- I'm a vet but our practice does not have the gear for lap spays so I have no financial interest in pushing them.

ConfusedbyCovid · 27/02/2022 16:07

We’ve been quoted £550 for a 6kg puppy.
This includes the op, pain relief, and t shirt.
I think it’s about £250 for the traditional op from another local vet. We’re in Surrey.

Watapalava · 27/02/2022 16:14

Not sure if ours is keyhole but last weeks quote for my 11kilo dog to be spayed is £200

SlothMama · 28/02/2022 13:08

Paid £400 back in 2020 for a 13kg dog, well worth the extra cost imo

honeyandbutterontoast · 28/02/2022 19:52

I paid £480 today for a 7kg dog. That was done in a specialist vet hospital. My local vets charge £350

kindlyensure · 01/03/2022 15:46

£350 for a keyhole last year. Dog weighed about 9 kg. Had to go to a bigger specialist practise as our vets don't do them.

tizwozliz · 02/03/2022 10:49

We've been quoted £450 for a 27kg dog.

vivainsomnia · 02/03/2022 14:47

We just paid £270 all together. They said that as our dog was small, it didn't require laporoscopy.

She recovered very quickly, was running and being her normal self after 3 days.

vivainsomnia · 02/03/2022 14:47

Should have added, dog under 6kg.

Felixthefish · 02/03/2022 16:33

My 22kg lab is booked in for April - cost is £520
