I am doing coursework. Can you tell me what sort of herding behaviours your Sheltie exhibits, if any? Do they 'show eye' and stalk, similar to a Border Collie for example? I can't seem to find out much about how they look when they are in herding mode.

Coppinger is your friend for this Smile

Predatory Motor Pattern is: -
Orient, eye, stalk, chase, grab, kill/bite, dissect and comsume

but as you know not all dogs do the whole pattern

Herding dogs predator Motor Pattern is :

Orient ,EYE, STALK, CHASE

Capital letters show the hypertrophised or strong behaviours,

Shelties tend to herd in a more head up position to collies who are shoulders up head down position.

@PollyRoulllson Thank you. I managed to find some footage of a sheltie herding and as you say, they were more upright and quite barky!
