Anyone looking for labrador puppies

Many Tears Animal Rescue have just taken in 57 labrador puppies and they all need homes. Apparantly they were bred specifically for the Police force but now the Police do not need them. They range from 10 weeks to 10 months old. There are quite a few videos of them on the Many Tears Facebook page.

Aaw. Wish I lived closer Sad

Oh my, that’s a treat to watch!

Not responsible of the police force to breed that many though, is it? No better than the breeders who dump their unwanted breeding bitches on Many Tears when they’ve done with them.

ThreeB · 17/02/2022 17:14

Is there any confirmation that they're from a police force anywhere? Police forces usually do their own rehoming and they should be shamed if they've put that many into rescue without taking financial responsibility for them

I can’t actually find any mention of it, after a quick look through. The police normally approach breeders individually I thought and even take dogs from rescues who haven’t been suitable for a family home (my local rescue has rehomed dogs as sniffer dogs etc). Why would they even need to breed that many Labs?
SpaceDetective · 17/02/2022 17:29

All I can see online is mention of Ireland?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/02/2022 17:35

It says they we're bred as service dogs - that's not the same thing as police dogs. Service dogs would be guide/hearing dogs, things like that.

But yes, very sweet!

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 17/02/2022 17:35

*were.

Puppy farming is a huge business in Ireland. That’s why ‘bred for the police’ sounds odder the more I think about it. Perhaps a puppy farm has been shut down and the police seized the dogs. There’s £1000s worth of Lab puppy there - can’t see any breeder giving that up easily or out of the goodness of their heart.

Saucery · 17/02/2022 17:42

Is it to do with Lucy’s Law? If they went to service training and are unsuitable for that then they can’t be sold on, can they? But they can be given to a rescue. Still a morally wrong waste of breeding, to me.
But they will make 50+ households very happy, so there’s that!

Movingonup22 · 17/02/2022 17:44

Sorry all - I shall be taking them all home with me

alltheseasons · 17/02/2022 17:55

I'd like to know where they're from/what health checks have been done etc. "Bred for service dogs but not needed" makes no sense to me.

Saucery · 17/02/2022 17:57

Don’t be selfish. You can’t have all that exuberant butt-wiggling cuddliness to yourself Shock
Thesearmsofmine · 17/02/2022 18:02

I would love to go and play with them all, so adorable 🥰

JuliaSways · 17/02/2022 18:11

Even though this madam drives me crazy most days with her antics*.... I am still going to follow the link and coo over all the babbys

*Luckily she makes up for said antics by being super cute and snugly

It doesn't say who bred them, just that they were bred as service dogs but no longer required for the role. They also say that they've not lived in a house before, so it's an organisation which kennels rather than than puppy walkers /handlers homes

They won't be Guide Dogs - they have their own breeding programme and also their own rehoming programme for any which are not suitable.

Saucery · 19/02/2022 19:42

Many Tears refusing help from other rescues, both large and breed specific, which seems a little counter-productive if they want to find funding and the best chance of homes for all the puppies.

Ellmau · 19/02/2022 20:03

The Fail is reporting they were bred to be sniffer dogs for a security company: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10528957/In-need-loving-home-57-puppies-destined-sniffer-dogs.html

It does all seem a bit murky.

Saucery · 19/02/2022 21:21

Private security sniffer dogs in places like Afghanistan? Cannon fodder, more like Angry
Disgusting trade, no wonder the breeding kennels don’t want to be named.

GirlInACountrySong · 19/02/2022 21:52

highly recommend lab pups

ours could do well at being a sniffer dog thats for sure!
