Border terriers

I am very keen on getting a border terrier pup. Wondered if someone with experience could say whether they would be a good fit for us.

Currently have a 10yo whippet who generally gets on well with other dogs. Kids are 18 and 16. We live in London with a small garden (enclosed) but spend part of the year in the country where we have lots of space (not enclosed). I’ve had spaniels before but never a terrier. I wfh part time.

Any advice v gratefully received!

They are the best dogs! Lovely personality, very easy, perfect size. Ours is nearly 12, and fantastic - friendly with other dogs, never barks except to go out, affectionate, loves people. We do always walk him on the lead, but he has a decent garden to run about in. They can be prone to digestive problems, but he has been on a fish and potato diet for many years very successfully. Get one!

I have a female BT, she has a lovely friendly demeanor, absolutely loves people and is great with children. She's not so keen on other dogs though and will sometimes bark at them on a walk. She likes her own space sometimes and hates being picked up, even as a pup she hated it! But she will jump up beside us for a cuddle when she wants one. She's great with our cat and puts up with a lot of nonsense from our young Jack Russell terrier. She has a couple of minor health issues, her teeth are terrible, not sure why, we have done all we can to look after them and none of our other dogs ever had dental issues. She's also short sighted, which doesn't cause any real problems to be fair.

BTs are great little dogs. However you get some crazy ones, like the one featured on 'Dogs behaving very badly' the other night. They are terriers after all! On the whole I'd say go for it!

Here's my girl, looks cute sometimes, other times she looks like a grumpy old man but I adore her, she's amazing even when she's being a dick lol
