Isolating and something wrong with our dog

We are all isolating at the moment 3 of the family are positive. Our retriever started to walk strangely this evening , her ears flattened and seems to be very shrunken down if that makes sense ? Nose is warm and her breathing seems fast, she is lying on the mat in front of me asleep and I can see she is breathing quite rapidly.

Problem is as I said we are all unable to leave the house and I tried to ring the vet to ask if we could drive to them with masks and gloves on and stay outside the building but they aren't answering and there doesn't seem to be an emergency vet. I could get a relation to bring her there in the morning but I'm worried about leaving it till then. My husband seems to think she hurt herself jumping up and down off the couch but I'm not sure. Is there anything we can do to help until we get to the vet in the morning

Ring another vet?
All vets should have out of hours cover but if you can't get through I'd try elsewhere.

Yes try another vet. They should all have an out of ours number. And you can leave isolation to take a sick animal to a vet so don't worry about that.

...out of hours 🙄

IWishIWasABaller · 04/02/2022 22:57

Thank you I had assumed that there would be an out of hours message on their voicemail with details to an emergency vet but no such luck. Will ring all local vets now

Definitely try another vet. There’s a caveat to isolation meaning you can seek treatment for poorly pets. Hope she’s ok

Got through to the vet on call , explained everything and he doesn't seem to think it's an emergency. He said to keep an eye on her and if she gets worse to call him. Just brought her out to wee there now and she struggled to get up off the mat , took a minute to get up and stand. It seems to be an issue with her back left leg she can't seem to put weight on it at all I hope she will be ok till morning

Hope your dog feels better in the morning. You are allowed to take unwell animals to the vet even if you are isolating ( tell the vet though).

HappilyHadesBound · 04/02/2022 23:35

You said 3 out of 5 are positive- if either of the other two are adults aren't they able to go out? I'm assuming it depends where you are, but we've just had a positive family member and with them isolating and everyone else testing daily, we were clear to go out.

IWishIWasABaller · 04/02/2022 23:44

We are in southern Ireland all household contacts have to isolate for 7 days unless you have received the booster

How is your dog this morning?

IWishIWasABaller · 05/02/2022 14:06

Thank you for thinking of her . She is walking this morning slightly stiffly still . Slept all night and ran around the garden this morning , I can still see something isn't quite right though. Rang the vets and they asked us to run out hands down her back, along her hips and down each leg to her feet to see any reaction. No reaction at all or sign of pain . They said it could be the start of arthritis and to keep an eye on her till Monday
