Does anyone have any advice for Pointer trainer experts. We've just got through our second behaviourist. He sat there nursing his potentially dislocated shoulder and suggested a zap collar. I need better help.

I don’t know anyone local to you but you could try the HPR Club and see if anyone can help. Or google a guy called David Alcorn. He’s not a behaviorist but an expert in all things HPR and might be able to help. He lives in the Scottish Borders.

Thanks Polly

Pointer recall is a rather specialist subject.
A friend who breeds working labs has assured me it starts with making the right pick from the litter, evidently I didn't.

Being flippant I think it starts with choosing another breed Smile I love pointers beautiful, althletic, stunning dogs but not for the fainthearted.

When it comes together it will be fab and when you get your working labrador as your next dog you will find it a breeze Smile

I've found the local Vizsla breeder (proper Crufts dogs) and he does shoot training Grin
Plus if he judges her to be too much of a handful he knows the regional HPR people. Including someone who trains GWPs.

Is there an HPR club near you? They would hold training days, and have contact details for a lot of trainers.

Take heart. I have known HPRs who would be two fields away of they smelt a deer at a year or 18 months, being steady enough to take shooting at about 4.
