I'm pregnant - dog keeps barking at me

I'm 16 weeks pregnant. For the last few weeks my dog (10 year old cocker spaniel) keeps barking at me, growling at me, scratching my arm for attention.
He's always been quite a needy dog but I'm wondering what's going on. He's also been crying a lot in the morning, just lying there doing this really long whine on and on until we go to him and then he stops.
But it's only been since I've been pregnant. He's been normal with my partner.
But as soon as I come in the room and sit down he comes over to me, sits down and just barks and barks at me.
Anyone else had this?

Mine went the opposite for a while when I was first pregnant (like the first 4-8 weeks).
She’s allowed on the sofa but chose to sleep in her crate rather than sit next to me and watch Tv. I must have smelled funny.
She went back to normal by the time I was 12 weeks, I’m 30 weeks now and she’s mainly upset that I’m too big to walk far.

Yes at first he was coming up to me and sniffing me a lot. I wonder if it's because of the changes he'll be noticing.
I've had a really bad back since 7 weeks and had sickness as well so struggled to walk him so my partner has been walking him instead which would have been a bit change for him.

I would get him checked out at the vet. He is probably fine but any odd whining is probably worth getting checked out just in case the pregnancy thing is a coincidence.

fwiw mine went all strange when i got Covid. The day before I tested positive he sniffed me all over and then barked at me (and he never barks this dog). Next day he did the same and as I had an odd headache, I did a test and it was positive. He behaved differently around me till I got rid of it about 10 days later. On the 10th day, he sniffed me, was obviously happier with my smell and didn't bark!

he may just be sensing the changes in you and you probably do smell different and it's confusing him!

@HappyThursdays
It's funny you say that because I do have Covid as well and he's been worse the last week sitting there barking at me and sniffing/ scratching me.
He's recently been to the vets and all was ok. He's been fine today for the first time in a while but that could change at any point! He hasn't been barking at me today but has just lay next to me.

How odd, it might be that! Mine is a cocker too and he really did not like the Covid smell! He's totally fine now!

The day before I tested positive with Covid our 2 poodles wouldn't leave me alone. At one point they draped themselves over my shoulders, one on each side. They definitely know when something is up.

That's really interesting @HappyThursdays. When I had Covid my DDog sniffed me over the day before and wouldn't sit with me.

GerardWay123 · 04/02/2022 10:34

I had that years ago. I'm sure they know there is something different about you.
