Hello.

DDog (who is nearly 2) goes crazy when any of the DC goes into a room and shuts the door on themself (e.g. goes to the loo, or into their room). She leaps up barking uncontrollably. Doesn't do it with DH or with me. What is this about and how can we stop it?!

Many TIA

What kind of dog is she? How old are the DC?

ThingThatIBring · 26/01/2022 19:49

@Happenchance she's a miniature poodle. And the kids are one teenager and one pre-teen...

Sounds like she just feels left out from the fun she thinks might be happening inside.

You need to desensitise her to the DC leaving the room so she doesn't get so upset or worried. Reward her when she's calm and ignores the door, ignore her when she's barking. The DC should only come back into the room when she's calm.

I was expecting you to say the dog was a GSD....one of ours was very much a family oriented dog, and would love nothing better than to be able to keep us all in sight at all times. The other was very much a one woman dog and was happy as long as he knew where I was

Can they let the dog accompany them? I'd think a couple of weeks of realising that having to sit and wait by the open door is a lot less fun than staying where she was in the cosy sitting room might dampen down the reaction a little
