Hypothyroidism to Hyperthyroidism

Our elderly 12.5 year dog has been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism as she had lost weight-barks at everything-is up about at night -drinking more-I asked the vet to do all blood tests as they wouldn’t believe me when I said she has list too much weight. She had been on thyroid medication since she was diagnosed Hypothyroid at age 6.
We have stopped her medication to let her thyroid levels settle-I’m worried it’s thyroid cancer as I can’t understand after all this time she has been over medicated for hypothyroidism .Vet just says it’s really rare and probably just need to drop her dose of thyroid medication once she’s been off them for 5/6 weeks. We are into week two and so far she is still ravenous and barks for food all the time.Anyone else’s dog suffered like this?
