Best antihistamine for dog?

My french bulldog has allergies and our vet has recommended we give her antihistamines. Only issue is there is literally so many different types! Can anyone let me know what you give your dogs if they have allergies? I find it all very confusing with so many different types.

Ask your vet to get the right medicine and dosage.

Our vet used to recommend Piriton for our greyhound. Had to be original Piriton and not Piriteze or any other type.

He used to have one tablet once a day but he was 35kg.

Hope you get your dog’s allergies under control.

Hope

If they have recommended them then I would ask for advice on what to take and dosage.

Our takes 1 piriton tablet a day apart from over winter as he suffers runny nose and gloopy eyes from some irritant but this and the dose was after consulting with our vet.

Thanks @Letsnotargue. Yes he's recommended half a tablet of Piriton once a day so I'll make sure I get her Piriton not Piriteze. Thank you!

Hi, the recommend dose of piriton for dogs is much higher than that - please ask your vet to check the BSAVA formulary!
Also we tend to say that for most cases antihistamines are like “pissing in the wind” so make sure your vet has a plan!

We had a small dog on a half tablet of Piriton a day for years - she didn't need more than that to keep her allergies under control.
