I'm starting to look into this breed as a potential next dog in 2-4 years time. Which gives me enough time to research and then start over if they are the wrong breed for us.

So does anyone have any experience with them? I'm aware that they can be strong willed and try to dominate if not corrected, but I'd love to hear from actual owners if possible.

Also obviously going to breed FB groups/forums etc.

No dogs dominate, that’s totally outdated thinking. As is ‘correction’.

Positive reinforcement is best.
What do you know about the breed so far? What attracts you?

Shibas are extremely intelligent and independent thinkers, they do what they want, when they want. Some are energetic and hard work, some are lazy and hard work. I’ve not yet met two with the same personality.

I've done basic study of the breed and have an in depth guide coming today. Which was a trial in and of itself as reviews on all the ones I've found are very contradictory. Strong willed was more what I met. I have a strong willed velcro dog already, and we've found a happy medium of living.

What attracts me? I'm looking for a dog who has personality, who likes to exercise as I lead a very active life, but who also is family-centric but will happily curl up and be cuddly with you of an evening.
Every guide on the more available breeds points at golden retrievers, but I'd rather avoid them to be honest. No prejudice, just not a dog I'm hugely drawn by.

Lovely pair, thank you!

How much harder are they to train? What are they live in day to day living? And how do they do when/if they are left alone in the house?

And what is the 'scream' really like to live with/do they do it very often?

Will try and not just write a long list of questions!
