Mumsnet hope it’s ok to post when original thread was deleted.

This is something that winds me up too! As you saw on the thread you’ll get lots of entitled owners telling you you are the problem! Ignore

I also use the let’s go and keep walking, as pup gets older they’ll learn to ignore dogs anyway and this gets easier

I totally agree with you in how frustrating it is, as you are doing just stay calm and keep moving!

And before anyone pops up to say how cruel and in natural it is I do not allow my dog to interact with others I’ll tell you why

  1. she gets loads of off lead fun in safe enclosed fields with safe buddies who I know and trust
  2. a friends dog was mauled but ‘friendly’ off lead dog, who have never done that before Hmm

So I’d much rather my dog learns to ignore others when she’s on the lead

I couldn't post on the original thread, but I agree entirely!!! My dog is on a lead for a reason and we don't want to be hounded by everyone else's out of control dogs when we are on a walk. My dog also gets to socialise with other dogs in a safe and controlled environment.

I think I missed the thread you're referring to but I will be doing this when my pup can go on walks. All this socialisation need to great everything and everyone is unnecessary.

As you can imagine @IggyIggyIggy op got flamed for not letting her dog engage with all the random dogs that approached…. with some other horrid comments added in too Angry

I can imagine. The training my mum has put into her now 18mnth old pup for it all to go out the window with meeting dogs who are "friendly" it's not worth the hassle.

Didnt see the original thread but I can imagine how it went. Sorry OP dont take it personally and you are not alone in your views.

I do not encourage my dogs to bundle in and play with all other dogs.

They are trained to focus on me and are all able to happily walk past other dogs without interacting with them.

I may let them interact with dogs I know but they really would rather just be interacting with me.

Science also backs this up that most dogs over the age of 2 do not want to play much with other dogs.

Village dogs do not play together, they may be together but rarely play and bundle in together as you see "pet" dogs do. It is a learnt behaviour encouraged by owners.
