Hi all!

How do you wash your dog blanket without all the hairs clogging up your washing machine?!

Take it to the laundrette Wink

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 03/01/2022 18:31

I used to use a laundry bag but everything just ball up in a lump and it buggered the washing machine drum in the end. I just do an empty quick rinse cycle afterwards now and make sure I do an empty 90 degrees wash once a week. Machine never gets clogged

OddSocksSparklyDocsandDungaree · 03/01/2022 18:31

@NiceTwin We have random 'public' washing machines that are at various locations where we live. I was very tempted to take it there but thought best not ;)

@WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe Do you wash them every week?! We're only just getting used to his blanket lasting more than a week! The bugger used to chew them to bits Grin

I give it a quick beat on the line outside if very hairy and run a rinse cycle on the machine when it’s done.

Santaisstilleatingmincepies · 03/01/2022 18:37

Good shake. Wash with powder and a cap of Zoflora.. Line dry then ten mins in the drier to get the last hairs off.

Every Sunday!!

We suffered a power cut during the last storm, lasted 5 days. We needed to get our vet bed cleaned for our business, so took it to one of those Revolution places.
I also used to wash my horse rugs at the laundrette before a few people set up companies to do it.

OddSocksSparklyDocsandDungaree · 03/01/2022 18:52

@NiceTwin That's the name of the public washing machines I was referring too! Grin Our washer broke not long back and with a baby in the house too, our washing started to stack up. In the end, I took the full washing basket to the 18kg one and got it done Grin

I'm going to take the dog blanket to one!

Ddog doesn’t have a bed so I just have cheap fleece throws from ikea that I put in the sofa and are changed every other day. I have a large piece of vet bed that I will put on the kitchen floor if he’s particularly wet after a walk but that only gets washed every few weeks as it is stored and aired in the garage when not in use.

PollyRoulllson · 03/01/2022 19:00

I use vet bed and give it quick hoover first then pop in the washing machine.

I use these all the time for horse and dog stuff, saves your washing machine. You can buy various sizes. I’ve never had a problem with them balling up as per previous poster.

pebble7 · 03/01/2022 19:01

I put the dogs bedding inside a laundry / wash bag and wash it in that

NiceTwin · 03/01/2022 19:25

@OddSocksSparklyDocsandDungaree those Revolution set ups are great. You can so much in and well worth the money Grin

WhiteXmas21 · 03/01/2022 19:28

I wash in my own machine then use Vamoosh cleaner to get rid of hairs. I have 2 dogs and wash blankets every week at least.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 03/01/2022 20:54

I just wash it as normal, do an extra rinse cycle afterwards and clean the filters/door seal regularly.

Our dogs' blankets get washed weekly so I don't know if frequent washing helps - we use fleece and they don't seem to attract too much hair.

Els1e · 04/01/2022 12:39

I hang it over the line dry in the wind (and rain) for a day to get rid of loose hair. Then put into washing machine. So far it hasn’t been too bad

Scattyhattie · 04/01/2022 13:44

I use the jumbo moorland washbags too, can't say I've noticed a balling up issue either. I've rubber bristle broom/brush which I go over vet bed with to help remove hairs.
