The kids just taught the dog to wink - what odd things do yours do?

I didn't believe them but they've just got him to do it and now he's doing it on demand as we are laughing so much.

I am sure he is just copying them winking but it is making us laugh so much. Is there anything odd yours do?

Mine announces it's tea time with a huge warbling howl. The only time she ever barks...
Other ddog barks if I take too long with my toast. Crust lover...
1 plays dead on command...

Greenandcabbagelooking · 03/01/2022 16:13

Mine knows “hit the deck”. I make him sit and stay, walk away and call him over. When he’s about 4 feet away, I say “hit the deck” and he slides the rest of the way in on paws and belly.

HappyThursdays · 03/01/2022 16:19

😂😂 those are v funny

It is amazing what they observe!

A friend's dog (actually her guide dog) used to play hide and seek with her neighbour's kids. He learned to close his eyes and wait for the number 20 before he'd start searching. I swear he learned it on his own.

AThroneOfLies · 04/01/2022 19:41

Our dog sings, full on howls but only at certain songs

UnoriginalPenguin · 04/01/2022 19:44

Mine plays hide and seek as well, but he's a bit too impatient to be good when it's his turn for hiding - if I don't find him after 30 seconds he gives the game away by crying Grin

isthismylifenow · 04/01/2022 19:46

My Lab gives me a good night kiss every night.

Soubriquet · 04/01/2022 19:52

High five
Paw
Boop the snoot (they have to put their noses through my fingers in a circle).

Madam also knows “where’s your ball” and will go on a hunt to find her precious ball….which is more oval shaped now due to her chewing it

Twilight7777 · 04/01/2022 20:04

Mine knows how to bend her head down to take her harness off, knows the signal for bedtime (me switching off my iPad and putting it down) and runs round the room in delight 😂

FernieB · 04/01/2022 23:08

Love these. Mine loves hide and seek and knows 'search' - he'll dash off to see what's been hidden. He also knows all our names and will seek out the right family member on command.

squishyegg · 04/01/2022 23:37

My old family dog used to errrr.... excite himself with his two front paws.... 😭😂

plinkplinkfizzer · 04/01/2022 23:59

My girl was trained to jump through a hula hoop on command and spin on the spot . She is elderly now so hula hoop is in storage .

HappyThursdays · 05/01/2022 08:45

Hide and seek is v funny! Especially impatient dogs GrinGrin. Clever dogs learning lots of things! Mine definitely hasn't got our names yet - but he knows some of the names of his toys.

The routine stuff is interesting isn't it (knowing what signs lead up to bed). When I worked a bit from home last year, the dog learned when my voice intonation changed on calls and I was about to say goodbye and he would come in and jump on my lap as me saying goodbye meant dog attention time!

I don't have a dog but years ago i saw the comedian Sean Hughes on tv with his & it barked when he said nuns & would look left on command Smile

OldTinHat · 05/01/2022 09:39

I've read/saw on YouTube about a stray dog in Greece that drags her back legs so people feel sorry for her and give her food. She then runs off on all four legs afterwards. And another stray who, after watching people hand over money for food at a street vendor, now finds a leaf and takes it to the vendor for food. And gets fed!

Clever things, these dogs!

Soubriquet · 05/01/2022 09:50

I was out walking my two once and my bigger girl stood on a nettle and hurt her foot so she got carried the rest of the way back. Seeing this, my little dog pretended to limp so she could get carried too Grin

longtompot · 05/01/2022 10:08

How cute op! Mine can sort of sneeze on command. Well, usually she sneezes on her own and we say bless you! and she sneezes again, and again depending on how many times we say it. She's done it 5 or 6 times in a row before now.

Giggorata · 05/01/2022 10:10

I've said this before but my elderly lab sings happily into her dinner as she eats. She only does it when we're there, so maybe she's showing appreciation.

Iamkmackered1979 · 05/01/2022 10:12

Aw cute, you can train a dog to do so many things. I don’t dO set routines as it doesn’t suit dog however my sister is a dog trainer and trained her cat - he was a clever cat she’s also trained a chicken, and rats as part of her training course. My dog is a bit daft he can sit pretty though but I’d be happy if he just didn’t shed socks!!!

FireandBrimstone · 05/01/2022 10:14

@HappyThursdays video or it hasn't happened 👀Grin

Aposterhasnoname · 05/01/2022 10:20

Long gone now, but used to have a dog that would patiently queue at the ice cream van. When it was his turn he’d put his paws on the counter and be rewarded with an ice cream cone. Then he’d sit with all the kids from the street to eat it.

Another one knew all the family names, including extended family. Everyone had a particular toy he’d present to them when they came, a different one for each person. When told aunty x is coming to visit, he would rush off to get that toy ready for them. Once had the police round over a report we’d made and he was chucking all his toys out of the box trying to find a free one that he could allocate to the copper Grin

I'd love to contribute to this thread but unfortunately my massive mongrel has a head full of rocks. Knows 'sit' and 'wait' but beyond that I can't get him to do much else. Lovely, affectionate, gentle dog though so I think he still qualifies as a Good Boy.

MamaBearThius · 05/01/2022 11:04

I taught my Cavidoodle to whisper Smile

itwasntaparty · 05/01/2022 11:05

Mine knows:

What time it is - he has medication at 730 and 1930, he'll come and find me five minutes before and bark at me. Every time.

The kids get home at 1515, at 1510 he'll go and sit at the front door.

Who the weakest link is - if we have people over he knows better than to beg from us but he'll choose who he assumes is most likely to give in - usually a child.

How to get around totally blind, which is by far the most impressive!

ClaudiaWankleman · 05/01/2022 11:16

I can remember teaching DDog how to lift his head when he had the cone on - he really thought he had to scoot around with it pressed to the ground all the time!

He once threw a temper tantrum when we all had ice cream at the beach and he didn't get one (it was his favourite food). He was also really good at knowing when we were leaving for work and he was about to get his treat - he'd get really impatient if I ate my yoghurt too slowly!
