Trainer or behaviourist?

I’ve recently taken in my cousins Chihuahua who is an adorable little thing and gets on well with my other dogs. We had a bit of barking at first but she soon settled down with them and now they all sleep together:)

The problem is I don’t think she’s been very well socialised as she barks at other dogs when we pass them (she is on the lead as her recall isn’t very good which we are working on).

She doesn’t bark at the dogs at the dog sitters though.

Will she always be reactive to dogs when we’re walking or is something I can train out of her? If so do I need a behaviourist or a trainer to help? I just want her to be happy and not stressed going for walks.

I had a reactive dog and the best thing i done was see a behaviourist. He was amazing, at the end of the 1st session there was a difference already. You have to be disciplined and keep up with the training or that is money down the drain as they are not cheap.
Good luck.

A behaviourist is definitely the right way to go here.

This is the place to go - refine your search to behaviourist only and see if there's anyone in your area. If she's insured and the behaviourist is vet approved/recommended, you may be able to claim some of the costs back from your insurers too :)

Behaviourist. Try INTODogs to look for an accredited one near you, or IMDT.

Behaviourist.although I have to say, I dont meet many small dogs that dont bark when passing.I never owned a small dog,but It seems to me,most of them bark a lot.Maybe the ones that dont bark had a behaviouristSmile.I certainly think, it cant do any harm.
