Hi looking for some advice. About to pick up my 1st puppy. Can I let him in the garden to start toilet training (he has had his 1st jab) or do I need to wait until after his second

Yes! And what are you getting? How lovely!

We get a lot of fox visits, so set up a temperature barrier on the patio so he didn't go to the areas where there is more fox traffic, and we could hose it down (London, parvo & lungworm cases are common).
It also helped as at first he was getting used to the lead so we could just take him out without putting a lead on.

Aww thank you all we are getting a lab cross. And it really is a dream come true for us. Years of planning, lots of saving. Its perfect time as we are both at home at the moment as well!

I saw a squirrel & hedgehog crossing through the other day & had a major panic the garden wasn't going to be safe..
We are in the country. Never seen a fox here, but did see a rat a few months ago. 😱😱😱

We have fenced it off to keep him contained until he is a bit bigger. I will make sure area is hosed down properly but that is great news. I'm expecting accidents I'm the house but wanted to start as I mean to go on with him.

We got our puppy before her first vaccination last year, she went in the garden straight away with no hosing down etc (in London). She was absolutely fine, you can definitely start to toilet train!

Squirrels and hedgehogs are fine (hedgehogs are great - they eat slugs & snails, which transmit lungworm). Foxes can also carry lungworm, & parvovirus, which is why I cleaned & restricted access - but I used to work in a vets & saw the worst case scenarios, so I'm probably a bit paranoid!
