Home boarding?

I'm just wondering what experiences people have of using home boarding for their ddogs? Our own ddog has never been into kennels at 15yo, and used to go stay with a parent while we were away, which sadly isn't an option any more.
I would honestly rather not go away than put her into kennels, she would be so stressed in that environment.
If you've used home boarding, would this be a good alternative? TIA

We used a home boarder on our wedding night and our pup loved it.

Another option is paying for a sitter to come and stay in your house if that's something you're comfortable with.

Our puppy goes every week to doggy day care. They also offer home boarding and she has stayed for a couple of nights. She seems to have absolutely loved it! We also much preferred that to regular kennels. She bounds out of the car very enthusiastically when we pull up, so they are clearly doing something right!

Home boarders need a licence from your local authority and would have been inspected to meet requirements. I am one and have jumped through hoops! To sit in your house needs no such requirements although them having insurance is advisable.

Friends of mine do home boarding, they seem to have the same regular dogs each year and clients book them 2/3 years in advance. They only have one dog at a time, both only work part time and have the time to do this. I’ve never asked how much they charge, but I don’t think they do it just for the money.

We had one but she sadly had to close her business due to Covid and I haven’t found one as good yet.
Check they are fully licensed and insured and visit them well before you decide, I did this and instantly ruled quite a few out

Thank you for your responses, this does sounds promising!

I had good experience with home boarding.would never put my dogs in a kennel.all that barking in kennels,my collies would go mad with that constant noise.

Our home hoarder is amazing, ddog loves it there! We rarely leave him but pre covid if we were going to family in the us we had to, and he wouldn't cope in kennels. He's also diabetic so needs someone one on one really.

I've used Holidays 4 dogs before he was diabetic and really recommend them.

I also like them, but I would try and build a relationship before you are due to go and do a couple of trials for them and for you. My boarders both only really take regular dogs and are not keen on occasional dogs as it's much easier when they have a bunch of regulars and know how the dogs get on and all their little quirks! In my city there is a lot more demand than supply at the moment which means it can be quite hard to get occasional boarding.

Turquoisesol · 09/12/2021 15:15

Itwasntaparty how does holidays 4 dogs work? And how much do they typically cost? I tried to look up website but it’s not too clear

We use dog boarders. We used to send ours to daycare once a week and they offered a boarding option which we used on a couple of occasions. They've since shut down, but we have found another licenced boarder and have used them a few times over the last couple of months. We get photos every day and our dog even got a Christmas present haha - I couldn't send him to a kennel, he would hate it!
