How to stop puppy eating tree?!

We have no way of confining the tree. Puppy (5monrhs) currently sleeps between our bedroom floor and downstairs in the living room.

Everytime I come downstairs she’s pulled branches off/chewed a toy!

It’s driving me insane. She absolutely hates the crate so that’s why she’s not used it for months but normally she doesn’t chew a thing.

Help :(

Haha, puppy is adorable. We have a 7 yo lab, we haven't had a Xmas tree up for 6 years as he kept trying to take it out to the garden.

Slavetolove · 09/12/2021 06:53

I don’t think the kids or husband would be happy with that 😂😩

It is pretty common to keep the tree in a play pen when you have a puppy.

Sundancerintherain · 09/12/2021 06:56

You could try gating it off as your puppy is still quite small. ( Ours was a December birth so was going through the teenage naughtiness the first time he saw an Xmas tree up.)

Slavetolove · 09/12/2021 07:04

I’m not sure how it would be possible to do that 😩

Kiddy play pen around tree.
Hopefully next year it won't be needed

Put a puppy pen around the tree and don't leave the dog in the room where the tree is unless he's being supervised.

Mine was never interested but our cats are a nightmare Grin

I just put some hot sauce on the lower branches and as I was doing it she licked abit 🙈 she won’t go near the tree now lol

I just bought a tree fence of Amazon for £20. It’s small and flimsy and I didn’t think it would work but she hasn’t been near it since. It’s literally like th tree became invisible.

Goawayangryman · 10/12/2021 13:13

Exactly same situation here. I've repurposed her ex pen to serve as a tree protector. She is very cross is whining about this infringement to her nordman-consuming rights.

BobbieT1999 · 10/12/2021 13:16

When our dogs were puppies we bought a bitter apple spray to stop them chewing on things, I'd give that a try

ilovesushi · 11/12/2021 12:57

So adorable! I think we are going to have the same problem when we get our tree this weekend. 10 month old lab who only stops chewing when she is playing or sleeping. So funny about the lab dragging the tree into the garden! I can so see our doggo doing that!

Quickchangeartiste · 11/12/2021 13:10

It gets better year 2.
My labs do get very interested in presents under the tree, especially if they came from the pet shop.

And we did have an incident at Grandma’s early on when her tree was toppled in an effort to get to the chocolate coins. But we blamed that on Grandma for goading the poor dog with food on her tree, poisonous food too !
Beautiful puppy !

@Slavetolove I tried a bit of hot sauce when our lab started chewing the door frame. He bloody loved the stuff! Xmas Grin

(It's not just that cheeky, usually very naughty, 7 month old puppy that's the problem either- it's the usually incredibly well behaved nearly 2 year old who wouldn't stop bloody eating baubles)

This thread has inspired me to try again, ddog is 7 now so in theory should leave it alone .

XiCi · 15/12/2021 08:00

We have a selection of gonks and Santa's that we stand around the tree and that put him off. It's his 2nd xmas this year though and he hasn't gone anywhere near it so think it is just that 1st puppy year that's the worst
