Muddy paws

Any solutions? I've tried drying them with a towel and have got one of those paw cleaning cup things today (not optimistic). Should I bite the bullet and get a warm outside tap?

I'm interested to hear suggestions too.... would love someone to make dog wellies!

I've tried various things but go back to a tumbler of warm water and a towel.

DH has had various protein shakers o er the years, and one of those is ideal for paw washing! I fill it with hot water and then leave it on the side - or in the car - and then when we get back it's the ideal temp to dunk paws in for a rinse. I had an old beach towel which I cut into smaller squares so they are a handy size for drying.

A smaller towel is a good idea!

It gets very muddy round here in the winter so I recently had a warm outside tap installed and it's been used nearly every day since it was put in. The dog loves it, the utility room floor is a lot cleaner and I have mud free Wellingtons!

I fill a water squirter with hot water and leave it inside the front door with a (black) old hand towel. The squirter nozzle is set to "jet" and by the time we get home the water is tepid. Quick squirt down her legs, paws and often her tummy then a rub down with the towel. Job done!

Have to admit if it's just paws then it's a cold hosepipe job as the little toad is quite happy to walk in and sit in cold puddles so 🤷‍♀️

If he's thoroughly filthy then it's pick him up and straight on the shower.

I am tempted by a mud daddy though.....

Hot water tap outside is very handy though. All dog bathing now happens outside which is much easier and saves my bathroom being totally trashed. They race round the garden for a good shake as well so it's all good.

Warm tap?! Mine get a 10 second spray of their paws with cold water from the outdoor hose pipe...after wallowing in cold mud the previous hour.

This is the thing. Always had Labs, never once in twenty five years have I ever contemplated trying negotiate a wet muddy Lab through the house and up the stairs up the bath without destroying the house in the process. I have always had two Labs at one too. Double the mud.

Have always used a cold house pipe outside. Labs are hardy and built for it.

trickytrudy · 08/12/2021 21:07

I also taught all of them to shake on the command 'shake' 😊

BackBackBack · 08/12/2021 21:07

Labs are brill.

I have rather weedy sighthounds who are not renowned for being robust!!

LakeFlyPie · 10/12/2021 00:19

I got a silicon paw cleaner contraption for DDog, was sceptical about how he would tolerate it and also it's effectiveness but it's great on both counts. Can't believe the filthy water that comes out of it!

Squizzley · 10/12/2021 00:21

I got a warm tap installed for £60. When coming in from the garden I just wipe her paws with a towel.

Squizzley · 10/12/2021 00:22

Oh ignore the ‘you are spoiling your dogs with warm water idiots’.

BobbieT1999 · 10/12/2021 00:34

We got rid of the lawn Confused
It just wasn't worth it with multiple dogs!

I must be harsh but it's cold water here Grin

He's quite happy to splash in the sea in December and roll on frosty grass on his walks so cold water it is!

He gets put in a drying coat in the warm house afterwards so it's not like he's going to freeze.

Proper baths are warm and inside but after walks it's just a spray down in the garden.
