Puppy Heart Murmur

My golden retriever puppy is coming home in just over a week. The breeder has let me know today that he’s been diagnosed with an innocent heart murmur at his vet appointment. They’ve said it’s very common and they usually grow out of it, but have said if I don’t want him any more then they understand. Has anyone else experienced this and how did it turn out? Really stressing about it as I’m so attached already 😭

My dog was diagnosed with a heart murmur, the vet said it was common and he’d grow out of it, he’s nine now and fit as a flea, the dog not the vet.

Same here, our Welsh Terrier had a heart murmur as a puppy, she's now nearly 8 and they haven't mentioned it at all for the last 6 or 7 years.

Thanks both. It sounds so scary and it’s my first dog, so trying not to panic about it. Glad that yours were both ok!

Not a dog but a kitten: DCat was diagnosed with a heart murmur at her 4/5 week vet check. When we took them for their 2nd jabs at around 12 weeks, there was no sign of the murmur and she's been fine ever since. It's normal for many baby mammals to have slight murmurs that resolve as they grow.
If it's minor, I wouldn't worry too much but be aware that any pet insurance probably wouldn't cover this as a pre-existing condition. I'd want proof that it was minor though with a written report from the vet or the chance to get it checked by your own vet before committing.
