Hi,

Just wondering if a dog has caught kennel cough, do you need to delay surgery? And how long for?

Thank you.

Not a vet but I can’t imagine a vet would take them in for anything unless it was an emergency as they would be spreading KC to the other dogs .

Yes, I'd expect any routine surgery to be postponed until the coughing is over.

No vet would perform surgery on a dog with Kennel cough, unless an absolute life threatening emergency.you dont need a vet to answer your question.hope the kennel cough gets better soon.

Thank you for your replies! So if the surgery goes ahead 10 days after clinical signs have gone, should that be ok?

Thank you.

It is best to ask your vet when surgery can go ahead.

I think this thread relates to this thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/the_doghouse/4415415-If-I-would-have-just-known

The OP's dog went in for a scan, under general anaesthetic, 10-14 days after having kennel cough. The dog very sadly passed away under anaesthetic, and the OP is blaming themselves for not delaying the scan.

  • The OP of the other thread, I mean (don't know if the OP on this thread is the same OP under a different name, or a different person wondering about this after reading the linked OP)
