Waterproof trousers with wellies

RedRobyn2021 · 30/11/2021 10:07

Just had a thought that maybe a fellow dog Walker can help because I have spent hours looking

My partner has asked for Christmas for some warm, waterproof trousers that he can wear over wellies, but ideally ones that are short or can be adjusted to be short so they won't get mud all over them.

If he tucks them in the wellies all the water runs down into the shoe getting his feet wet, if he wears the trousers over the top he gets mud all over them. These would be worn for daily morning walks

Please does anyone have a recommendation?

What about some gaiters? Might solve the problem

rbe78 · 30/11/2021 11:08

Does he want over trousers or normal trousers that are waterproof?

Eitherway, Craghopper does both in different leg lengths, so you could measure his inside leg and then get a pair that are purposely too short.

Buying womens trousers might be another idea, as they are typically shorter.

Try to go to your local gun shop/country store as shorter waterproof trousers are used for beating.

Surely in the winter, you just need to accept that mud comes with the territory? There's no bit of equipment out there that's going to stop you getting muddy on winter dog walks, lol.

You just want trousers over the top of wellies and just hang them out to dry and shake them off once the mud is dry. All waterproof gear can be washed on low temperatures too.

Regatta do some decent, cheap waterproof overtrousers or if you want all-in-one waterproofs, then Craghoppers or Rohan are both good options. But anything you wear is going to get covered in mud at this time of year, lol.

Try googling 'waterproof plus fours' or 'waterproof plus twos' or waterproof breeks'

Lots in hunting/shooting/fishing type stores

Just one example:

You could also solve the wet feet by getting him waterproof socks, for example

Don't know the company, but are these the sort of thing?

Um... if they’re higher than his wellies, the water will still run down the wellies.

Thatldo · 30/11/2021 17:58

@icedcoffees.totally agree.unless you wear shorts, there will always be mud on your trousers.I think it comes naturally with dog walkingGrin

I'm a dog walker, I just accept that everything will get filthy from around October to March Grin

I end up absolutely filthy most days but it's just mud...it washes off lol.

Dougieowner · 30/11/2021 18:20

Another vote for gaiters.
I rarely wear my wellies and prefer waterproof boots & gaiters on filthy / mucky days.

I thought this thread was going to be about waterproof trousers and wellies for dogs, with pictures and everything.

Disappointed doesn't cover it.

Go to a farmer's shop where you can buy thornproof leggings. They come about a third to half the way down my wellies. They are like short trouser legs attached to a belt (no bum or crotch) and are the best for wet and muddy walkies. I use them for beating.

trekcrockett · 02/12/2021 14:54

I have MuckBoots that I wear over the top of trousers/waterproofs, they don't let any rain in from the top.
My waterproofs are Berghaus Goretex which I wear over normal trousers.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 02/12/2021 22:30

Another vote for gaiters and comfy walking boots (don't understand how anyone finds wellies bearable for use beyond the garden). Gaiters best thing I have bought in years. Every winter I wear dry comfy walking boots and the gaiters ensure warm dry lower legs and NO MUD on jeans.
