Does my spaniel need a fleece/jacket

As per the title, does a spaniel need a fleece or jacket/coat now it's getting colder? It was -1 here today and every other dog, except a lab, we saw on our walks today had either a fleece or a coat on and it made me feel like a neglectful owner!! Pup is nearly 10 months old if that makes a difference?

I can see the attraction of one with sleeves and the underbelly covered to keep them a bit dryer and cleaner if the grass is wet and muddy or even snowy. I kind of thought it was just greyhounds or chihuahuas and small terriers that wore jackets and fleeces but breeds of all shapes and sizes were wearing them today.

So if your dog has a fleece or jacket do you recommend it and is it needed for warmth or to keep the clean up easier?!

On another note, am I the only one who wishes dogs could have wellies lol how much easier would that be than washing and drying muddy paws constantly?!

We have a fleece jumper but only for mud prevention purposes more than cold. And I do only put it on his when it's freezing and wet and muddy. He also has a thin waterproof coat I chuck on him when it's raining a lot. Doesn't do jack in terms of warmth as it's just a skin and cotton liner (basically a dog cagoule?!) Does he need one? No. Does it make my life a bit easier at 7am when I am trying to do a walk before work? Yes.

I wouldn't bother with the fleece at that point but the throw over jacket is great.

His Xmas present is a ruff and tumble drying coat for after those wet walks.

Depends if they’re cold or not...

My cocker spaniel is 10 now and we got him a coat last year which he'll wear when it's really cold. He looks bloody gorgeous in it as well. So cute.
Think he gets a bit colder now he's older.

We got this one from Amazon:

It's been really good so far. You just pop it on after walks and they dry off really quickly.

We have a ruff and tumble coat - they're quite expensive so might not be something to invest in until they're fully grown - but it's much better than the cheap Aldi one I've got and she looks adorable in it :-)

I'm probably going to get the next size up soon so might sell the one I have (size M).

I love the Ruff and tumble ones, the Aldi ones didn’t have a cover for their belly which is the soggiest part of my spaniel! I have a size M/L for my springer.

Spuddog had an Equafleece jumper 😊

I have a working Cocker and he has an Equafleece for cold weather.

I couldn't care less about mud and dirt, haha. I love it when he gets all muddy.

He gets the proper shivers in freezing cold weather, especially if it's also raining, or if he's had a swim. If we know we're going somewhere with water, we'll take an Equafleece to put on him afterwards. Otherwise he only wears his fleece if the temperature is near or below freezing.

He has very silky, shortish fine fur though, so I think this is part of it! The more fur they have, the less they tend to need a jumper!
