Border Collie girl was spayed 3 weeks ago(aged 1 year).she is massively shedding/loosing hair. She is otherwise fine, eats well,is happy(although spaying was traumatic for her).Other female dog owners out there with this experience?how long does this shedding last?

Is it not just the normal winter shed?
All of mine started loosing handfuls of hair about 2-3 weeks ago and it’s still ongoing. It usually starts when the temperature drops for a good few weeks until it settles.

You probably won’t have noticed it last year if she still had a puppy coat Smile

I've got a border collie girl who's not long turned 1 who isn't spayed (she's not long finished her first season and her hair loss at the moment is insane. I think it's a combination of getting her full adult coat and the change in seasons (winter coat coming through) She's got her groom next month and it can't come quick enough. Saying that though it's settled a bit this week compared to last.

It might be a bit of normal shedding, but it is much more then normal shedding.I wonder,if it is a combination of spaying and seasonal shedding.she had a very long season period(a full month) with anxious behaviour. After season it all settled back to her normal collie self.I hope, spaying will settle her hormone level and she will put on weight(she is very lean).

You will always see major coat drop after a spay/anaesthetic - entirely normal. Just keep brushing, will all be back lovely next year.

Yes! My collie cross did! She usually sheds like a demon but it's more individual hairs. This was big grey tufts of undercoat coming out! It was very satisfying pulling them out! Grin It went back to normal before long (which is basically just shedding ALL OF THE TIME)
