I've been patiently waiting for the right time to get a new addition to our family and DH has given the green light (it's been a very long wait)!

I've decided an Italian Greyhound would be a good fit. Now, to go about finding a good breeder. Any tips with that? I've signed up to champ dogs for alerts. There are a few listed on the KC website too.

So, if you have one, talk to me! Pics also very welcome!

ooooooooooooooo I'm so excited for you. You know you are doomed - no one ever meets puppies and says 'no thanks, just not cute enough'!!

IggyIggyIggy · 07/01/2022 13:05

@Alternativepersona I've already packed the car with bed, blanket, pee pads, poo bags GrinI finish work at 3pm then I'm running out the door!

Good choice of breed! Don't have one myself but my mum has 1, and 1 WhippetXIggy, and my sister has 2 WhippetXIggys too! Wonderful dogs, great natures they have.

IggyIggyIggy · 07/01/2022 13:43

Owh thank you. I've not been this excited in such a long time!

We’ve got an Iggy and she’s the sweetest, most characterful dog we’ve ever owned. She’s curled up beside me right now.
HOWEVER…….as pp have said, they’re a nightmare to housetrain. She knows not to go in front of us so she goes in places not used so much - my grown up son’s bedroom for example, if the door get left open.
Dh loves her but he’s insisting on a whippet next time as we’ve never had trouble housetraining whippets.

So sweet! Good luck. I found week 14-18 really tough with my pup but so lovely. We collected and he curled up to me in the car for 2 hours!

Enjoy!

Alternativepersona · 07/01/2022 23:17

I've been waiting for your update and he doesn't disappoint! What a stunning boy. Congratulations! I may, or may not have attached a picture of ours as a pup....

Haa I wasn't coming away without one was I?! Omg look at the ears on him! I'm a bit nervous though as all I've fed him is chicken and he's just thrown it all up. Going for the kibble he was on first thing but he's not had a drink either Confused and so the worrying begins

Alternativepersona · 08/01/2022 00:27

He'll be fine don't worry. As long as he has access to water, I'm sure he will drink when he needs to. He's bound to be a bit freaked out, but you will soon be the centre of his world. Iggies love to feel secure under a blanket, that may help. Good luck and keep us updated!

IggyIggyIggy · 08/01/2022 07:56

He had a drink before we went to sleep. He literally slept in my neck all night GrinGrinGrin

He is so cuteeee ❤️❤️❤️

Also here with the worrying about no food/water at first my puppy was exactly the same it’ll all be normal soon - enjoy!

IggyIggyIggy · 11/01/2022 10:03

That’s an adorable photo

OliveToboogie · 14/01/2022 00:15

Definitely rehome from Greyhound Trust. I got my boy 3years ago. He is big for a Greyhound but folds down into tiny space. Love him to bits. Photos just because he is cute.

@OliveToboogie OP already has their little bundle 🙂
Not sure you'd ever find an Italian Greyhound at a Greyhound Trust though. They are very popular (and pricey!) and I think you'd be lucky to find one in a rescue! But maybe I'm wrong

Trinacham · 14/01/2022 08:27

@OliveToboogie he's gorgeous by the way! He looks like my brother's Greyhound. She's getting on now, bless her.

I’d go whippet over iggy, too. Less prone to neuroses and much more robust in terms of health with same sort of look, just a little bigger.
