Animal Health Certificate for travel to EU

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to find a vet who issues the Animal Health Certificate for travel into the EU (replacing the old pet passport). Very few local vets were doing it, including my own, and the ones doing it are not taking on new clients. I have booked my dog in to a surgery and hour away and the cost is £250, not including the rabies vaccination. (My local very is doing his jab).

For those that have gone through the process, how much did you pay? I have another vet in Europe that I use when we are there, so will be getting a European Pet Passport once I’m there.

I can’t believe that in the Brexit negotiations this was left up I the air for so long, to finally come up with such an expensive and laborious scheme. No wonder UK vets would rather not go there. Actually, I can well believe it.

I notice today there’s a Petition on Petition Parliament about getting pet passports sorted with the EU which I have signed.

We have recently returned from Spain. We paid £150 for the Health Certificate before we went and have now got a EU passport for our dog. When we got the Health Certificate we hadn't realised that it is only valid for ten days before travel. We just made it but I don't think this aspect if publicised enough. So the rabies and the health certificate will have to be done separately.

The cost of the EU passport plus a second rabies jab was less than a hundred euros.

We paid £185 from our local vet.

Thanks @PonderingTotskeit for highlighting the petition, I have signed it today, it was a much better process under the EU passport.

We paid £150 for our AHC. Our dog was covered for rabies. When we got to Spain we visited our vet there and received a Spanish pet passport and rabies jab for €90. Be aware if you get a European pet passport a rabies jab given on the U.K. is not valid.
